Governor Newsom Calls Supreme Court Hearing on Abortion Pill ‘Backdoor Abortion Ban’

Supreme Court hears abortion pill arguments as justices weigh access to widely used drug

Imagine promoting a “sanctuary” or “refuge” for girls and women to have abortions… That is what California Governor Gavin Newsom is doing. California is the Abortion Sanctuary State as of 2022 – another “California first” the people did not vote on. Gov. Newsom officially created a state agency website to assist out-of-staters with their abortion travel plans.

A “sanctuary” is the “holiest room or area in religious building” or a “place to hide.”

Gov. Newsom invites “people seeking abortion care, or information about reproductive health care in California,” to visit Abortion.CA.Gov.

With the Supreme Court hearing arguments today in the case Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA about the abortion pill mifepristone, as well as recent actions by the Food and Drug Administration to make the medication easier to obtain, California’s Governor, who isn’t running for President, weighed in:

“Republicans want a national abortion ban. Full stop. And they’ll do whatever it takes – including trying to strip away FDA approval for a drug that has been proven to be safe and effective for decades. These hostile actions are not just unpopular, they fly in the face of science and put women at risk. So much is at stake today: reproductive freedom; the scientific process by which our country has approved safe, commonly used medication for decades; and our innovation economy – which, among other things, relies on the FDA drug approval process. This should scare the hell out of everyone. These extremists will continue working to roll back rights, and we cannot waver in our work to stop them.”

CBS News reported:

Approved by the FDA in 2000, more than 5 million patients have taken mifepristone, according to the agency, and studies cited in court filings have shown it is safe and effective.

In recent years, the FDA has taken a series of steps to make mifepristone more accessible, including allowing it to be taken up to 10 weeks into pregnancy and delivered through the mail without an in-person doctor’s visit. Those actions, taken in 2016 and 2021, have come under legal scrutiny after a group of anti-abortion rights doctors and medical associations claimed the FDA violated the law when it relaxed the rules.

Newsom’s office seized the moment and is using the case to promote California’s Abortion.ca.gov.

This is from the email Newsom (who isn’t running for President) sent out Tuesday morning, expressing his disgust at Donald Trump, the US Supreme Court and Republicans, while claiming abortion is “reproductive freedom:”

HOW WE GOT HERE: At the urging of extremists, both the district court and the 5th Circuit have sided against science, medicine, and decades of data.

WHY THIS MATTERS: This case has massive implications for people’s health and well-being across the country. Mifepristone is a key part of the 2-drug regimen used to perform medication abortions – which make up over 50% of abortions performed nationwide.

Newsom claims “This lawsuit threatens to upend the entire FDA review process – a time-tested gold standard for rigor and risk mitigation.”

Newsom would claim the “FDA review process is a time-tested gold standard for rigor and risk mitigation” given how he forced COVID vaccines on Californians, if they wanted to go back to school, to work, or to travel, go to concerts, and basically live normal lives, while lawmakers were exempted. Now we have scientific proof that the vaccines were not given the FDA “time-tested gold standard for rigor and risk mitigation” review process. Never forget these headlines:

California pushes 1st US vaccine mandate for schoolchildren (AP 2021)

Gov. Newsom Orders Mandatory COVID Vaccinations or Testing for school employees (CBS 2021)

California is first state to announce COVID vaccine mandate (NPR 2021).

Newsom claims:

  1. It is possible that the Court will invoke a 1800s law (Comstock Act) – viewed as a dead letter by scholars and Congress for decades – to impose a backdoor nationwide abortion ban. And if they don’t do it today, because of the election, they may find another opportunity next term to impose a ban

IMPACT ALREADY FELT: Since a Trump-stacked Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, almost every facet of our communities have been negatively impacted – from students deciding where to pursue their post-high school education and a medical workforce no longer able to learn comprehensive care to people being forced to carry their rapist’s baby and having to navigate potentially life-threatening situations without the health care they deserve.

Roe v. Wade was not a Constitutional right, and Congress never codified the decision in law, the Globe reported following the United States Supreme Court June decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, sending the issue back to states. Justice Samuel Alito wrote the opinion, and noted, “The Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision, including the one on which the defenders of Roe and Casey now chiefly rely—the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.”

In 2023, the California Legislative Women’s Caucus and the California Future of Abortion Council proudly announced their 17-bill package on “reproductive justice” and abortion rights. The “California Future of Abortion Council” (CA FAB Council) is comprised of reproductive freedom and sexual and reproductive health care allies, partners, and leaders,” the website says.

This is what Newsom is proud of, including 12,000 more babies aborted in California in 2023 than in 2022:

Since the reversal of Roe v. Wade:

  • Governor Newsom has invested more than $240 million to protect and expand access to reproductive health care in California.
  • California providers performed over 12,000 more abortions than expected – seeing an 11.2% increase in the number of abortions performed in June 2023 alone (compared to April 2022).
  • 198,678 people have visited Abortion.CA.Gov, with 55.7% of people being from outside of California.

From Newsom, who isn’t running for President:

“Learn more about how Governor Newsom, in partnership with the California Legislature, built California into a national leader for reproductive freedom, and the steps the State has taken to protect abortion access – even if Mifepristone access is restricted.”

This is the only issue Democrats have this election… remember that too.

  1. “…for a drug that has been proven to be safe and effective for decades. These hostile actions are not just unpopular, they fly in the face of science and put women at risk. “

Funny, you Newsom wanted to punish doctors for advocating treatments involving hydroxychloroquine, ivermectin etc. as a treatment for Covid, drugs that were proven to be safe and effective for decades. Those hostile actions were not just unpopular, they flew in the face of science and put people at risk. Hypocrite!

  2. A sickening display as usual from Gov Gavin Newsom (who isn’t running for President). 🙂
He believes in “freedom” about as much as I believe in a hundred-tentacled three-headed octopus godhead.
We have PLENTY of evidence, DUH, that Gov Gel-Head has nothing but disdain for an individual’s “freedom.”
Never mind, you know all of this. The more his lies are pointed out the more he is compelled to tell more. And the more he wants to redefine words. And the more he needs to twist reality into something utterly unrecognizable. And rub our noses in all of it. What a jerk he is. As you also know.
So thank goodness “he isn’t running for President”!

  3. “Full Stop” Newsom is investing in programs that Californians “didn’t vote for” which is robbing everyday California’s of a representative government. He is calling for a ceasefire in a matter that his voice in meaningless in while pretending to represent “California values”. Evil only lasts for a season and then it either goes away quietly or has a hard landing. Newsom is heading for a hard landing sooner than later.

  4. I don’t think I have seen a politician who is so obsessed with killing babies than Governor Climate Change. Reproductive freedom my ass.

    1. I know, John. It’s extremely creepy and chilling. And apparently Newsom is oblivious. Or more in line with what you said, he enjoys this sick obsession somehow.
