CA Assemblywoman Wendy Carrillo Arrested on Suspicion of DUI Intends to ‘Seek the Necessary Help and Support’

By embracing the need for treatment, help, and support, the perpetrator becomes the victim

California Assemblywoman Wendy Carrillo (D-Los Angeles) was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol early Friday morning in Los Angeles. According to LAPD, Carrillo was taken into custody in Montecito Heights after officers responded to a report of a traffic collision.

FoxLA reported:

Assemblywoman Wendy Carrillo, a Los Angeles Democrat who is vying for the City Council seat held by Kevin de León, was arrested early Friday on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Carrillo, 43, was taken into custody after officers went to the 6200 block of Monterey Road in Montecito Heights on a report of a traffic collision involving a motorist who had struck some parked vehicles, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Wow – she hit parked vehicles? You’ve got to be pretty snockered to hit parks cars. So another member of the California Legislature drinks to excess, drives her car, gets into a collision with parked cars, and gets a DUI.

We’ve heard this song before. Except state lawmakers have access to staff and Capitol police who drive them around routinely. And, there’s always Uber, which thanks to Democrats in the Legislature is more expensive now, and less available after they passed Assembly Bill 5 – which Carrillo supported.  AB 5 reclassified independent contractor drivers for Uber, Lyft, and DoorDash into regular employees in an attempt to push the workers to join labor unions. Independent contractors are barred from unionizing under federal law.

The last state lawmaker arrested for drinking and driving was Senator Dave Min (D-Costa Mesa). In May, Senator Min, a state Senator since 2020 and is one of three main candidates currently vying for Congresswoman Katie Porter’s (D-CA) Congressional seat next year. Min was arrested in Sacramento County for drunk driving. More details on Senator Dave Min’s Tuesday night DUI emerged the day after, revealing that he had, among other things, gone through red lights before his arrest.

In August, Senator Min was sentenced to three years probation for the DUI in May, as well as having to pay over $2,000 in fines and being forced to complete a 30-hour state-licensed alcohol and drug education program.

Would you receive probation for driving drunk and running red lights?

What did Assemblywoman Carillo have to say about her DUI arrest?

KTLA reported: In a statement released to the public Friday morning, Carrillo admitted to being involved in a collision, but did not confirm whether she was intoxicated at the time.

Here is her full statement :

Early this morning I was involved in a traffic incident involving parked vehicles. Thankfully, no one was harmed, and I have been cooperating with law enforcement. As a public servant, I am aware that I must adhere to a higher standard that demands personal accountability for my conduct and I accept responsibility for my actions. I sincerely apologize to my family, constituents, colleagues and staff for any actions of mine that have fallen short of that expectation. I intend to seek the necessary help and support. As I do so, I remain dedicated to my family, my constituents and the community that I grew-up in and am proud to represent.

STATEMENT FROM CA ASSEMBLYMEMBER WENDY CARRILLO

I’m sure Assemblywoman Carrillo’s attorney told her not to admit guilt to driving drunk. But her statement and apology has all of the veracity of Gavin Newsom’s back in 2007 when he was Mayor of San Francisco and finally admitted after a year and a half to a sexual relationship with Ruby Rippey-Tourk, the wife of his close friend Alex Tourk, who also was his re-election campaign manager and former deputy chief of staff.

Alex Tourk resigned and Gavin Newsom “showed no sign of backing down from the race to get re-elected in November, stirring a huge cheer when he said, ‘I am not going away,'” Fox News reported.

Instead of admitting what a soulless snake he is, Newsom began attending alcohol treatment sessions “to address the underlying reasons for excessive drinking.”

Entering into treatment screams “It’s not my fault.”

Screw up, apologize, go into fake treatment, run for public office, get elected or reelected, and fail up.

And that is the problem with most politicians – Democrats most often – caught in the act of something illegal. There is no shame, no humility, no real remorse or regret. Instead arrogance pushes them forward, and by any means necessary.

By embracing the need for “treatment, help, and support,” the perpetrator becomes the victim.

  1. Great Katy Grimes article on the latest Dem politician misbehavior. So many excellent points, and highly quotable on top of everything else. It really hit the nail on the head —— perpetrator self-transformed into victim. That’s the move by these guys, isn’t it?
SAYING you’re sorry and SAYING you take responsibility and then not taking any. As indicated above by Katy Grimes, the typical path of the (Dem) politician is:

“Screw up, apologize, go into fake treatment, run for public office, get elected or reelected, and fail up.” Yeah, that about covers it!

DUI and other dangerous and irresponsible behavior by the average no-name sinner has some very hard and immediate consequences, which can often include significant jail time in the case of DUI. But politicians like Asm Wendy Carrillo and Sen Dave Min (and others, of course) seem pretty confident up front that nothing much will happen. And that it will all soon fade from the public’s memory, so no damage done to the political career, either.

Maybe this is the main reason we so often see these politicians supporting if not instigating the relentless “de-carceration” efforts that are killing California and injuring if not slaughtering its residents. Is it to protect themselves?

  2. Of course not, CW! ha
Apologies? Restitution? She probably thought it was their fault for parking there.

By the way, this is too rich and hilarious not to post:
“Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo ‘Sneezed,’ Crashed, and Was Arrested for DUI”
“Carrillo blames a sudden sneeze for losing control of her vehicle and damaging multiple cars, while LAPD officers suspect she had too much to drink” (gee, ya think?)

  3. “necessary” for media forgiveness articles. Democrats never change. Anyway, first stop should be to Jenny Craig. Take a spot behind that elephant-ass’d Christie guy from New Jersey who has an open-mouth problem, too.

  4. A couple of Asm Wendy Carrillo “highlights”:
Carrillo has the distinction of being the first formerly illegal immigrant to be elected to the State Assembly.
Carrillo is now running for L.A. City Councilman Kevin de Leon’s seat. According to some on-the-fly research done and reported Friday 11/3 by Randy Wang, KABC-AM 790, she once worked for corrupt L.A. City Councilman Jose Huizar.* At that time Carrillo had an affair with Huizar’s aide, George Esperanza. When Carrillo was elected to the State Assembly she hired George Esperanza to be her Chief of Staff even though she knew he was under investigation by the FBI for corruption. Esperanza was later indicted and forced to resign from her office when he was arrested. And now Carrillo is running to sit in the same seat on L.A. City Council where Kevin de Leon currently resides, who only ran for that seat when Jose Huizar was indicted for corruption.
*(Jose Huizar was arrested and indicted on June 23, 2020, on federal corruption charges, leading to his suspension from council. In 2023 he pleaded guilty to charges of racketeering and tax evasion.)

I know! The fun never ends in L.A. politics! But just remember this, if you remember nothing else: 1) Wendy Carrillo is a VICTIM because she’s a drunk —- a drunk who drives. So don’t pick on her, just feel her pain; and 2) she slammed into two parked cars because she SNEEZED and lost control of her vehicle. How could anyone blame her for that? Oh, brother! (*eye roll*)

    1. CORRECTION: Disgraced L.A. City Councilman Jose Huizar’s longtime aide’s name is George ESPARZA (not Esperanza)
      sigh

  5. “I …….intend…….. to seek help?”

That is as good as Hunter Biden claiming he is….. exploring ……drug rehab programs, as part of his own plea deal.

  6. Biggest problem with “district elections” is they are population based, and can be full of illegal residents who cannot vote. This was touted as election reform, but in practice it was just one more back door to the Democrat super-majority takeover.

Population-based districts can be easily harvested by special interests, as their own personal rotten boroughs. Just seek out the few who can actually vote, in one of these population-based districts and you get a full vote, even though only a tiny minority in the district are actually legal registered voters, let alone actual voters.

Just one more way special interests (D) game the system in “term limits” California.

EG: Voter turnout may be huge in one population-based district, but they still get only one vote.
Voter turnout and even voter registration may be minimal in another population-based district, and they still get one full vote too.

Reform: Districts should be allocated based upon legal voter registration numbers; not population numbers.
It is our duty as legal citizens to vote; not get swamped at the ballot box by games played using the growing number of illegal, non-voting residents.

    1. You’re so right to point out this overlooked problem regarding districts, Jaye. As I recall, Kevin de Leon took advantage of what you describe to get elected to the state legislature. And people will remember that he eventually became quite powerful when he was in the Senate. His downtown L.A. district was not only highly populated with illegals but was also filled with mostly light industry/manufacturing, wholesale warehouses and such. There were very few legal residents. Employees and owners of the business entities that were prominent did not live in the district and thus (at the time, anyway – the Dem legislature may have changed it since) could not vote there.
Seems to me many corrupt politicians have taken advantage of such a situation —- getting elected with very few votes —- or they became more corrupt, and with galling impunity, upon recognizing that they had unilateral rule and NO opposition. Irwindale (City Council) comes to mind as one example.
