Despite hundreds of parents protesting and testifying, on Wednesday the California State Board of Education approved highly controversial changes to the state’s health and sex education framework including teaching children about bondage, anal sex, pederasty, sex trafficking, sexual orientation and transgender and non-conforming students.
“How are they helping kids find themselves when they are confusing them about who they are, or they could possibly be nothing at all,” said Stephanie Yates, founder of Informed Parents of California.
What is being taught as sex ed to California school children ironically cannot be spoken on television or radio.
The curriculum changes stem from the 2015 Healthy Youth Act (AB 329) by Assemblywoman Shirley Weber, which was sold as “updating the HIV and AIDS prevention education to reflect today’s understanding of HIV and AIDS.”
The bill also made comprehensive sexual health education mandatory. “Current law does not mandate sexual health education, but places requirements on instruction that is voluntarily provided to students. While this instruction is voluntary, research has shown that nearly all (96%) school districts offer a program of sexual health education. In contrast, HIV/AIDS prevention education has been mandated since 1992,” bill analysis said. The bill was passed along party lines, and signed into law by Gov. Jerry Brown.
However, the “voluntary” instruction is not how this is playing out, according to parents, and Jonathan Keller, President of the California Family Council. “Parents did not sign up for this type of sexual indoctrination,” said Keller. “The state of California should not force moms and dads to chose between participating in public school and protecting their children’s innocence. No student needs to be exposed to this graphic and explicit material. It’s child abuse.”

Parents and leaders of the Informed Parents of California have problems with large portions of the 1000+ page Health Education Framework, which guides curriculum development for the next decade, they highlighted four recommended books to show how offensive, reckless, and immoral the framework is. The links below provide book excerpts to these recommended books. (Be forewarned. Some of the curriculum is very sexual explicit.)
- Changing You!: A Guide to Body Changes and Sexuality by Gail Saltz – a book recommended for transitionalkindergarten through third grade. Includes graphic, close-up illustrations of child/adult genitals and the sex act itself.
- Who Are You?: The Kids Guide to Gender Identity by Brook Pessin-Whedbee – a book recommended for transitional kindergarten through third grade. Teaches kids they can be a boy, a girl, both, neither, gender queer, or gender fluid, etc. and that adults guess a child’s gender based on body parts.
- What’s Happening to My Body? Book for Boys by Lynn Madaras – a book recommended for fourth and fifth grade boys. Teaches kids slang words for male/female genitals and masturbation, and about having sexual fantasies.
- S.E.X.: The All-You-Need-to-Know Sexuality Guide to Get You Through Your Teens and Twenties by Heather Corinna – a book promoted for a school-wide read event for high school students. Introduces or encourages anal sex for all sexual orientations, BDSM (bondage, domination, sadomasochism), body fluid (urinating on each other) or blood play, fisting, and a long list of other sexual debauchery.
The Sacramento Bee reported:
One book, titled “Changing You,” which was recommended for removal, shows cartoon illustrations of male and female genitals to educate students on the terminology. It also explains what “having sex is.” The book was recommended for transitional kindergarten through third grade.
“There are all kinds of alternatives, but they want to teach sex ed with the guise that they were trying to prevent sexual transmitted diseases and prevent teen pregnancy,” said Greg Burt, director of California Family Council. “Now we are teaching kids how to have a robust sex life. Not everything under the sun needs to be taught to our kids, with no moral judgment.”
Legislative attempts to offer parents opt in or out out options have failed. Sen. Mike Morrell (R-Riverside) introduced a bill to have school districts offering sex ed in elementary school require parents to make a formal request, or opt in, to have their children be given the instruction. He withdrew the bill after it became clear it didn’t have the votes to pass the Senate Education Committee, EdSource reported.
Informed Parents of California pulled together the most objectionable portions of the 1000 page framework document in a 24 page summary with excerpts for K-6th grade health lessons, complete with pictures of some of the recommended supplemental materials, included in a California Globe article.
This curriculum also includes:
- Kindergarten books that introduce 5-year-olds to families with members who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender.
- First grade gender vocabulary lessons on words such as third gender, trans, queergender, non-binary, gender fluid, gender neutral, agender, bigender, and two-spirits.
- Lessons for 1st graders that provide detailed descriptions of sex with these quotes such as: “The man’s penis goes inside the woman’s vagina,” and “sperm can swim out through the small opening in the man’s penis – and into the woman’s vagina.”
- Pictures in a book for third graders showing a cartoon drawing of a penis ejaculating sperm while inserted into a vagina.
- Lessons which teach third graders that sexual reproductive organs don’t always match a person’s gender.
- Recommendations that fifth graders are taught sexual health lessons that must include examples of same-sex sexual activity. Students should not be separated by sex during these lessons to avoid “misgendering” students.
- Books that introduce 10-year-olds to anal sex, and the slang for male and female genitals.
Parents warn that if the state continues to push this sexualized curriculum on their kids without opt out options, they will pull their children out of school in protest, causing schools to lose the “Average Daily Attendance.” The state of California funds school districts based on each student’s daily-recorded attendance.

I hope and pray that parents will remove their kids from the CA public school cesspool en masse ASAP. Starve the beast. They will likely change their tune when they lose huge chunks of their Average Daily Attendance $$$$. Because lots and lots of money is one of the few things on earth they care about.

I'm a mom for 2 kids and I strongly refuse teaching kids about sex this is our role as a parent. Kids need to live their age. Please don't do this.
We are opening the door to children being inappropriate with other children, we are going to be having lots of lawsuits over things that kids are going to be experiencing with other kids. Thanks to the garbage that the school system is implementing. What do they think? That kids are just going to let them teach that stupidity and not be curious?
I can’t believe this!!! My son is getting ready to start kindergarten and I’m just now learning about the “ sex Es” and I’m discussed! This is NOT okay. We as parents should have the right to teach our child or children about sex the difference between men and women. I am a Christian and we believe same sex relationships are wrong however we don’t hate by any means. Nor do we try to change anyone. People are who they are and believe what they want. But the schools should NOT be having any kind of conversation with my child about same sex sex that Isent okay. Nor confusing them if they are a boy or girl when we teach our children there sex at home and church. We raise them a certain way then the government comes along and wants to confuse them and add more issues! We have enough people committing suicide, being bullied, and having issues with weight why add more! Let’s focus on important topics. Like how to eat healthy and exercise how to talk appropriately instead of cussing and bulling other children! Why not teach them to want to be someone like have firemen come to school and police officers lawyers nurses doctors encourage them to want to be someone in life! I have lived in the same town my entire life and over the last 32 years it’s gotten worse. There are so many homeless and young men in gangs people getting robbed stores getting broken into Lets educate our children about that! Why do we have to enforce something that NO ONe agrees on. I don’t know any parent that thinks this LAW is ok! Not one! So how dare the government make this change without our ok! There our children!

No wonder why everyone is moving out of California. This state is going down hill so bad it’s so sad. We used to be where everyone wanted to be we used to be a stage that everyone looked up to now look at us. This is sad!
I agree with you that it is our right and duty to raise our children the way we see fit. This garbage is unacceptable. My husband and I are also Christians. When our children were school age we decided that our Christian values were important and our children education was so important that we refinanced our house so that we could send our children to a private christian school. My oldest son is almost 42yrs old and our youngest is almost 34 yrs old and we have only 2 more house payments left to go from our refinance of our house. We sent 3 kids to private school which was 22 yrs from the first one to the last one to graduate high school. We believed and still do that private school was and investment in their future. So many people would ask us why we would spend so much money on private school in stead of public school which our taxes paid for. We were considered low income for our family of 6 but that didn't matter because our children's education was more important than going on vacation or having stuff. We never had a vacation or bought a new car or anything. We have now been married for almost 48 yrs and are finally getting our house paid off. Six of us lived in a 2 bedroom 1 bath house but we made it work because of our priorities. Boycott this filth they are trying to teach your kids. Make a lot of noise. Be a leader if you have to. My opinion.

If you bother to follow the link, you'll see that All the books mentioned were actually cited because they had been REMOVED from the curriculum. This "reporting" is just inflammatory BS. Learn to do your own research, especially when something strikes a nerve right out of the gate.

The four books removed were overshadowed by new guidelines textbook publishers will use over the next decade to create curriculum just like the books the board removed. And despite the removal of some of the offensive books, the framework still includes recommended books with similar content. Here are a few examples:
Sex, Puberty, and All That Stuff: A Guide to Growing Up (2014) by Jacqui Bailey. This book is for 4-6 graders provides instructions on how to masturbate, teaching on erogenous zones and how kids who french kiss also touch each other’s genitals.
2. It’s Not the Stork!: A Book About Girls, Boys, Babies, Bodies, Families and Friends (2008) by Robie Harris The framework encourages teachers to have their first grade students “write short reports” about this book, which introduces kids to the clitoris in print and in pictures, as well as details descriptions of sex.
3. Sex is a Funny Word: A Book about Bodies, Feelings, and YOU by Cory Silverberg (2015). The framework says this 4-6 grade book can be used by teachers to “initiate dialogue for the group chats.” This book covers how great masturbation feels and what it means to be queer, asexual, bisexual, etc.
They will push to have them come back , believe me . These books were written without ANY parental imput . They were
written with a great deal of imput by groups like Glaad, Glysen , as well as Planned Parenthood and the basically Marxist
ACLU .

what is the reasoning of giving out so much information, when it's so obvious that the information can then put the seed in the persons mind for them to think maybe they're missing out on something because other people are doing this and they are not. I am sick to read of the suggested topics. Little children up to about age 12, only need to very basic of human sexuality, they do not need to know the other things, it is basically giving them ideas and also again, confusing them, because, they then do not realize that they are no capable to knowing adult love and that these things are to be shared by adults that love and care for each other. You are teaching them how to do the basics and more and they are left thinking perhaps that these things have guaranteed feelings of love, which isn't so. Who ever wrote up such things, are complete idiots.
