CA Gov. Gavin Newsom Signs Legislation Authorizing $50M Legal Slush Fund to ‘Trump-Proof’ the State

California Governor Gavin Newsom signed legislation Friday authorizing a $50 million legal slush fund to “Trump-proof” the state against the President.
However, Gov. Newsom says the funding is not to be used for “immigration related legal services,” but the bill actually does as the Globe reported:
“SBX1-2 amends the Budget Act to add funding for Legal Services, including $25 million for legal assistance for Californians and immigrant communities.”
This won’t weather well.
California Governor Gavin Newsom announced in early December his plan to “Trump-proof” the state against President Donald Trump’s anticipated policies. Newsom called the special session of the Legislature to grab another $50 million that the state doesn’t have so Attorney General Rob Bonta can spend more time and taxpayer money to file lawsuits against the Trump administration, litigate and “defend” California’s problematic policies, regulations and laws.
Here are the two funding bills Gov. Newsom signed appropriating $50 million to “Trump Proof” California:
- SBX1-1 would amend the 2024 Budget Act to include a State Litigation Fund, allocating $25 million to the Department of Justice to assist in protecting California residents and taxpayers. For instance, if the federal government withholds emergency aid after a natural disaster, such as the L.A. firestorms, the fund will allow the DOJ to pursue legal recourse to secure the emergency aid from the federal government, providing California taxpayers with billions of dollars.
- SBX1-2 amends the Budget Act to add funding for Legal Services, including $25 million for legal assistance for Californians and immigrant communities. Our Assembly’s direction is crystal clear and in writing: This funding goes toward supporting free legal services for especially vulnerable Californians, including veterans, people with disabilities, unhoused youth, those facing eviction, seniors, and victims of domestic violence, wage theft and human trafficking. Per the Legislature’s direction, funding will not be used for legal services defending those convicted of a violent or serious felony.
SBX-1-1 allocates $25 million to the Department of Justice “to assist in protecting California residents and taxpayers.” The Senate Floor Analyses of SBX1-1 says this:
“Appropriates up to $25 million for the purpose of defending the state against enforcement and legal actions taken by the federal government, filing affirmative litigation challenging actions taken by the federal government, and taking administrative action authorized under state law to mitigate the impacts of actions taken by the federal government.”

Did you notice this? Newsom wrote in his statement that “none of the money is to be used to defend immigrants convicted of crimes “ but this language does not appear in the bill. He wants to have it both ways. It won’t matter. California is about to be overwhelmed by the DOJ. The AG will sue all the city’s, counties, school districts and the state for their “sanctuary” status, and cut transportation funds, and other federal benefits. This will further exacerbate the insurance crisis. Harmeet Dhillon is about to attack Shirley Weber and California voting practices, and Newsom’s move will result in President Trump appointing a special master to oversee federal aid for LA. They’ll need more than $50 million.
Never trust anything Newsom says… he lies with practiced ease…
This is a blatant example of government corruption. We need a DOGE in California. The waste and fraud is off the charts. I’ll bet our taxes could be reduced by 80% with no loss in services to our U.S. citizens. Getting rid of the illegal immigrants would save $30 billion right there.
We need Newsom recalled asap. He signs this bill while begging for money in DC. Meanwhile, out of the other side of his mouth he says we are the fifth largest economy in the world. If our economy is that robust, why do we need federal money? The time is now for a Republican to announce running for governor. Maybe Steve Hilton will announce, shortly. We sure do need DOGE. We need our voter rolls gone through with a fine toothed comb, too. No federal funds to the state for the fires. Make sure federal relief goes directly to the people, not Newsom, not Bass. The state will steal it.
Other money that can be withheld, Medicaid portion of MediCal for illegal aliens that Newsom granted to them.
Gov. Gavin “Hair-gel Hitler Newsom” and the rest of the criminal Democrat mafia thugs in the legislature are once again stealing taxpayer funds to create another slush fund that perpetuates their demonic selfish agenda which does not in any way benefit the majority of legal Californians. Many of us hope that the Trump administration is able to round them up and hold them accountable for their blatant lawlessness.

Crime and homelessness have increased under his tenure. He released criminals out onto our streets to relieve “overcrowding” in our prisons. Now if one was thinking logically, would it make sense to deny the federal government to arrest and jail the illegal criminal gang bangers? It would reduce our overcrowding, would it not?
It is a wicked game Newsolini plays but it will cone back to haunt him.
Yes, let’s use tax dollars to prevent illegal alien gang and cartel members from being deported. That makes sense doesn’t it Democrats?

Governor Newsom and Karen Bass are absolutely DESTROYING your California . I live in Arizona and we see so many people fleeing crazy NewSCUM and coming to our beautiful state, but I don’t want their politics. California needs help and it needs help very quickly before it absolutely goes into oblivion. I visited and I could not believe all of the people living in tents in front of these beautiful restaurants and the poor restaurant owners are beside themselves.
