Downey City Councilman Mario Trujillo created a political firestorm after he posted on Instagram “No one mourns the wicked” after Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk’s assassination at Utah Valley College on Wednesday, September 10th. The following day, Trujillo tried to clean up his social media mess by issuing a statement, without an apology, condemning violence “regardless of who it targets.”

“I want to be absolutely clear: I do not condone any form of violence, whether political or otherwise,” Trujillo stated from his city council account on Thursday. “Free speech – a cornerstone of our democracy – should never, under any circumstances, lead to someone’s death. I stand united in condemning violence, regardless of who it targets or where it comes from.”

Trujillo’s attempt was a little too late, as his post went viral after it was immediately shared by @EndWokeness on X, garnering nearly one million views within hours and caught the eye of Downey’s mayor Hector Sosa.

Mayor Sosa called for a special meeting citing that Trujillo violated the council’s Code of conduct. The special meeting was held last night.

In a 3-1 vote, the Downey City Council voted to censure Trujillo for the violation. Trujillo obstained from voting, leaving Councilman Horacio Ortiz standing opposed. Due to the censure, Trujillo is stripped of his committee assignments.

Trujillo, in his opening statement, claimed the council had violated “the Brown Act by coordinating on social media ahead of the vote. He requested representation by an outside attorney, to be paid for by the city,” The Downey Patriot reported.  Later in the meeting, Trujillo finally apologized. “If I could take it back, I would,” he said. “I effed up” and claimed that his family has been receiving death threats since his post went viral.

If Trujillo was a Democratic U.S. Congressman, he would have likely escaped censure from the Republican majority and retained his committee assignments.

  1. If Councilman Trujillo is receiving death threats after his offensive comment on social media, it couldn’t possibly be measured against what happened to Charlie Kirk. Asserting a man who followed his Christian Faith inspiring young and old to examine their hearts and minds for truth and justice was wicked?
    Charlie Kirk wicked?
“Bad men cannot make good citizens. It is when a people forget God that tyrants forge their chains. A vitiated state of morals, a corrupted public conscience, is incompatible with freedom. No free government, or the blessings of liberty, can be preserved to any people but by a firm adherence to justice, moderation, temperance, frugality, and virtue; and by a frequent recurrence to fundamental principles.” ~ Patrick Henry

  2. Shouldn’t a Downey City Councilman like Mario Trujillo be more concerned about the many problems that the city of Downey has such as the city’s crumbling infrastructure, the crime rate that is higher than the national average, and the many public schools that are rated below average with a significant majority of students being Hispanic and economically disadvantaged? Instead Downey City Councilman Mario Trujillo has nothing better to do other than viciously attack Charlie Kirk’s character after he was unjustly assassinated leaving behind a grieving widow and two small toddlers. Democrats like Mario Trujillo are just despicable excuses for human beings? No doubt he has some shady connections? If Mario Trujillo thinks that no one mourns the wicked, will anyone mourn him when his time comes?

  3. Councilman Mario Trujillo needs to be removed from his seat all together. If any employee violated the Code of Conduct for their employer, that is terms for termination. He needs to be removed TODAY!

  4. Horacio and Mario are best friends. Mario helped him gain a seat in the City Council. They are both gay men and radical liberals. Horacio can frequently be found at Mario’s LGBTQ nightclub “Muevelo” … it’s no surprise that Horacio showed allegiance to his friend rather than do what is right. His dissent from condemning Mario’s behavior shows where his loyalty is, not to the people, but to his friend. That makes Horacio complicit. Wake up Downey!

  5. S.O.P. is for leftists to claim death threats when they publicly display their stupidity and hatred in vain attempts to garner sympathy. It won’t work this time!
