A frenzy on twitter and mainstream media has erupted after Los Angeles native and Hollywood superstar Jamie Lee Curtis has emerged as an icon for armed self-defense in the latest Halloween movie sequel.
Rotten Tomatoes notes, “Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her iconic role as Laurie Strode, who comes to her final confrontation with Michael Myers, the masked figure who has haunted her since she narrowly escaped his killing spree on Halloween night four decades ago.”
While the movie is gaining a lot of publicity from the celebrity’s appearance and its spooky Halloween theme, Curtis’s acting skills are not exactly at the fore of discussion. Instead, the staunch gun control advocate has taken heavy heat for her use of firearms for self-defense, which many deem peculiar given Curtis’s past actions to spite Americans who possess guns deemed necessary to defend themselves.
Many Hollywood celebrities have been labeled as hypocrites by right-wing media for using their platforms to express ideologies that seem out of touch with everyday Americans. Interestingly enough, back in early 2018 during the march for our lives movement whether right or wrong, Curtis also used her spotlight to state, “Heroes everywhere. Cowards too. We all have a choice how we will participate. Not just marching. Daily doings and actions of love and brotherhood and sisterhood and humanhood,” which was presumably meant to indicate she supported the gun control activists.

Now starring in the Halloween movie, the official trailer shows Jamie Lee Curtis firing a lever action rifle as well as a 5-round revolver. While wielding the firearms, Curtis’s character Laurie Strode mentions the fact that she “must protect my family,” exemplifying why many people feel the need to bear arms in the first place.
Fox News was quick to call out Curtis for her while also including a statement from Senator Cruz (R-TX) saying, “Hollywood liberals on gun control is akin to Hollywood liberals on global warming which is they fly their private jets to a conference, step out and say, ‘Global warming is terrible. Let’s take away everything from the working men and women.’ And then they get back on their private jet and fly back. Same thing on gun control. If you have a bevy of armed security officers protecting you, maybe you shouldn’t be trying to strip Second Amendment rights from law-abiding citizens.”
Other publications such as the HuffPost have since fired back stating “Curtis was playing a fictional role and asked if Fox News actually knew ‘what movies are’ and had ‘heard of acting’.”
