Hypocrite Alert: Gov. Newsom Blames Trump For Abandoning LA Fire Survivors
Newsom knows that no one in Palisades, Malibu and Altadena will ever vote for him again

If “hypocrisy” had a photo image, California Governor Gavin Newsom’s face would grace the poster.
As the Globe reported Thursday, “Newsom has all but abandoned the Palisades fire victims; is now asking for a $34 billion federal bailout.”
California Governor Gavin Newsom disparaged President Donald Trump at the New York Times Dealbook Summit in New York City this week, while turning around and sending a letter to Congressional leaders asking for a $34 billion bailout for the Los Angeles County Palisades fires.
Yet, the California governor needs federal funding to bail him out of a really big political problem.
It is Governor Newsom who is “bending the knee” to President Trump. Newsom now claims he is “taking his advocacy for LA fire recovery to Washington to again call on the Trump administration to provide a proposal to Congress to immediately assist LA fire survivors in rebuilding their communities.”
Newsom has made President Trump the central focus of his Presidential campaign, disparaging and slandering the President at every turn. But the governor also wants the federal government to pay for the Palisades fire victims, 11 months after the fires. Newsom admits he hasn’t done anything in 11 months to get federal aid, and has all but abandoned the Palisades fire victims through inaction, causing the re-victimization of the fire survivors.
Friday Gov. Newsom stormed the U.S. Capitol in search of support for federal funding, claiming it is “not only for the people who have been torn asunder:”
“Governor Gavin Newsom spent the day on Capitol Hill meeting with key congressional leaders in both parties as part of his continued push to secure long-delayed federal wildfire recovery funding from the White House for Los Angeles families nearly one year after the catastrophic Palisades and Eaton Fires.
Okay. But the “long-delayed federal wildfire recovery funding” won’t take the place of the local California help the governor has denied victims of the Palisades and Eaton Fires.
Oh – and Newsom attacked the President once again, claiming:
“the Trump administration turned their backs on survivors by refusing to even meet with us. President Trump’s promise to ‘take care’ of survivors was clearly a lie. He isn’t here for the people of Los Angeles, just like he isn’t here for everyday Americans. That’s not just disrespectful, it’s a disgrace – and it’s time for him to wake up and do his job.”
Actually, replace President Trump with Gavin Newsom. Here, I’ll do it for you:
“the Newsom administration turned their backs on survivors by refusing to even meet with us. Governor Newsom’s promise to ‘take care’ of survivors was clearly a lie. He isn’t here for the people of Los Angeles, just like he isn’t here for everyday Americans. That’s not just disrespectful, it’s a disgrace – and it’s time for him to wake up and do his job.”
Ouch. The truth hurts.
Let’s continue with this theme:
“Approaching the one-year anniversary of the fires, survivors are still waiting for long-term federal assistance as President Trump continues to withhold a federal aid package.”
This should read:
“Approaching the one-year anniversary of the fires, survivors are still waiting for long-term state assistance as Governor Newsom continues to withhold a state aid package.”
And:

Replace that with the accurate statement:

And whatever happened to the $100 million raised during the FireAid benefit concerts held in January 2025 that was never delivered to fire victims as promised, but rather ended up with dubious non-profits?
Remember? The Globe reported:
“…funds didn’t go directly to victims, but were sent to dozens of non-profit groups linked to the Annenberg Foundation. Half of the funds, $50 million, were released during the first round of grants in February, with 120 non-profit organizations getting funds. Some of the beneficiaries are known, with groups like the Pasadena Humane Society receiving $250,000 to treat pets and animals harmed by the fires. In total Investigations by Pascoe, ABC affiliates, and others confirmed that money was received with the groups, with many adding how it was spent.
Later in 2025 round two of the funding was released, with an additional $25 million going once again to third party non-profits and not individuals. Round 3 funding is currently in the works, with the last of the $25 million to be given away.”
Direct payments to individual fire victims not only never happened, it was never planned in the first place, according to FireAid spokesman and Los Angeles Clippers’ communication chief Chris Wallace. “As a newly formed 501c3, FireAid does not have the capability to make direct payments to individuals and that was never the plan,” said Wallace. “To deliver aid into the community, we partnered directly with trusted local nonprofits who have the capacity to reach the communities in need, to provide food security, housing, and resources for schools. Each dollar was intended for the community, and a stipulation of the funds was that not a single dollar was spent on administrative costs.”
Newsom’s statement Thursday is laughable:
“Governor Gavin Newsom, as part of his continued work on behalf of LA fire survivors, again called on President Trump to transmit a formal request to Congress to fund critical federal recovery programs to support Los Angeles.”
Note “as part of his continued work on behalf of LA fire survivors.”
Newsom hasn’t done any work on behalf of LA fire survivors. Just ask them.
Newsom’s statement Friday is even more laughable, and evidence of a flailing presidential campaign, and a vainglorious governor.
As we reported Thursday:
Gov. Newsom could have lifted Coastal Commission regulations and ordered all state and local building regulations and restrictions lifted so that LA fire survivors could rebuild what they had. Instead, Gov. Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass have doubled down on draconian permitting, preventing most fire victims from getting a permit.
The LA City Council even delayed a decision to waive fees for Palisades Fire victims trying to obtain rebuilding permits… 11 months later. It’s as if they want the Palisades to remain as is – burned to the ground and ripe for alternate development.
Fox 11 reported “Almost 11 months after the Palisades fire, residents who lost everything are still waiting to learn whether L.A. will waive reconstruction permit fees. Fire victims packed City Hall shoulder-to-shoulder Tuesday as officials once again delayed a vote on the fee waivers.”
Newsom and Mayor Bass can give out free Medi-Cal health care, and free rent to illegal aliens, and free college to illegal aliens, and build homes for homeless drug addicts. But, when it comes to assisting the Palisades residents who pay a lot of taxes to the county and state, nada.
Gavin Newsom knows that no one in Palisades will ever vote for him again.
And that is what Gavin Newsom’s recent push for federal funding is all about – politics. He knows that no one in Palisades, Malibu and Altadena will ever vote for him again. But because of his presidential campaign, he needs to look like a hero on the Palisades fire recovery – something he has shamefully and possibly criminally ignored, if you ask the victims.
Blaming Donald Trump is hilarious, and pathetic and wretched.

A Palisades fire victim who attended the L.A. City Council meeting Katy Grimes cited above reported that many attendees who had lost their homes and everything in them were heard SOBBING at the decision to delay the council to waive permit fees. We can only imagine the unbearable frustration and grief they are experiencing without end. And yes, it IS “….as if they [L.A. City Council] want the Palisades to remain as is – burned to the ground and ripe for alternate development.” You think? This is of course what Newsom & Co. want, too.
Katy pointed out the replacing of Trump’s (or Pick-A-Person’s) name with Newsom’s when Newsom bashes and blames someone else for Newsom’s own endless failures and neglect, which is a neat trick that works every time, without fail. It also seems to be getting worse and more pronounced over time. Classic psychological projection.
I’m out of words that sufficiently express the revulsion and contempt that I and I know other Californians experience daily for Newsom. We have unfortunately come to know Newsom and his nasty game all too well. So much unnecessary added misery for fire victims —- and others who have suffered so much more than they should have —- all because of Newsom’s greasy, grimy soul. And what does he care? He doesn’t. He only sits up and listens — and acts —- when celebrity actresses like Halle Berry criticize him for vetoing a menopause study bill. For crying out loud.

Not mentioned is one of the underlying forces behind government entities not allowing victims of natural disasters to rebuild their homes. California is mandating that local jurisdictions override existing zoning regulations in order to force construction of high rise stack-and-pack monstrosities, usually built with zero parking spaces. It is occurring everywhere in my county. Why? The stated reason for these mandates is to create affordable housing. That is complete BS. Anyone living in one of these rabbit warren units is completely dependent on government for virtually everything. If you can’t have a car how do you get to work, or go grocery shopping for that matter? And what if there are no jobs nearby and you can’t work from home? Well, then you are completely dependent on government transportation. You are now a prisoner of government. Owning your own home with the space to park vehicles whereby you can control many of the things necessary to get by is the antithesis of total government control. Hell, you might even be able to grow a few vegetables. California does noy want you to rebuild your homes. It wants to force you into a rabbit warren.

I don’t trust Newsom, non profits, or NGOs. I stopped donating to entertainment based fund raisers after Live Aid in 1985. It raised $125 million for hunger. I don’t believe a penny went to actually pay for food. All the money went to prompters and entertainers. In fairness, the event was for “hunger awareness”. It just wasn’t vary apparent at the time. I believe any money given to CA by Trump would vanish in the same fashion.
