Katie Porter’s Media Meltdown Illuminates California’s One Party Problem

Expect to see the same from Gavin Newsom when he’s pressed by media outside of CA

By Katy Grimes, October 8, 2025 1:40 pm

Former Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) had a very public media meltdown this week, giving all of America a peek into what’s wrong with California’s Democrat Supermajority and one party rule.

Porter’s interview with CBS News investigative reporter Julie Watts went viral Tuesday and after a few questions, Porter announced she was ending the interview. Watts asked Porter, “How are you planning to win over the 40% of California voters who voted for President Trump, who you’ll need in order to win?” Porter leans in, wrinkles her face and asks, “How will I need them to win, ma’am?”

“Watts says, “you’ll need 60% of the vote. You think you’ll get 60% of the vote, and that everyone who didn’t vote from Trump will vote for you?”

“In a General Election, yes,” Porter says. “If it’s me versus a Republican, yes… I think I will win the people who did not vote for Trump.” Porter laughs mockingly and looks at the camera.

Watts asks, “What if it’s a Democrat?”

“I don’t intend that to be the case,” Porter answers.

“How do you not intend that to be the case?” Watts asks.

They go back and forth before Porter says, “I feel like this is unnecessarily argumentative.

The back and forth continues before Porter says, “I don’t want to do this. I call it.”

“You’re not going to do the interview?” Watts asks.

“Nope, not like this I’m not,” Porter says. “Not with seven follow ups to every question.”

Watts repeatedly tells her that every other candidate has answered her questions and follow up questions.

“I don’t care. I want to have a pleasant, positive conversation.” Porter then complains again about follow up questions.

Watts explains that she’s an investigative reporter, then questions why they can’t have a conversation.

“What part of ‘I’m me.’ I’m running for governor because I am a leader,” Porter says. But this self-professed leader refuses to continue the interview.

“So you’re not going to answer questions from reporters?” Watts asks Porter again.

“I don’t want to have an unhappy experience with you, and I don’t want this all on camera,” Porter demands.

Oops. Too late.

Watch Porter’s meltdown here:

Porter hasn’t really ever had to answer media questions before in this jungle primary state where most Democrats only run against another Democrat. Porter is now facing a serious challenge from Republican Gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton.

Where Katie Porter condescendingly shuts down legitimate media questions and is notorious for screaming at staff, political consultants and anyone in her way, Steve Hilton is very accessible, answers all questions earnestly, treats people with kindness and sincerity, and makes it clear that he feels honored to be running for California Governor.

For many years, The Globe has reported that Governor Gavin Newsom has an identical problem as Porter – he’s never really been put through the media wringer in a political race, nor has he ever run in a close political race.

Gavin Newsom’s political career has been relatively a given in one-party California, and with California’s leftist media running cover – especially with articles like Gavin Newsom’s moment of Zen by Politico, which fawns over Newsom’s “more philosophical and spiritual tone in recent public comments.”

Gavin Newsom has had plenty of run-ins with media, primarily over his own detestable behavior and personal life choices:

  • Before divorcing his then-wife Kimberley Guilfoyle, Newsom had an affair with his appointment secretary Ruby Rippey-Tourk whose husband, Alex Tourk, was his campaign manager.
  • Newsom claimed he had an alcohol problem and indicated that he’d go to rehab. He did not and rubbed voters’ faces in his betrayal. When Newsom ran for governor in 2018, the articles about his alcohol problem were incorrect. During an interview with The Sacramento Bee: Exclusive: Gavin Newsom didn’t really go to rehab: “No, there’s no rehab. I just stopped [drinking],” he said. “There was no treatment, no nothing related to any of that stuff. I stopped because I thought it was a good thing to stop.”
  • During his Covid lockdowns, mandatory masking, mandatory vaccines and social distancing, Gov. Newsom continually exhibited “do as I say, not as I do.” He ordered the 40 million residents of California to limit Thanksgiving “gatherings” to only three families or 10 people for no more than 2 hours, hold the dinner outside, use disposable dishes and utensils, wear masks, and frequently sanitize – no singing, no shouting, and no wind instruments – while he and his wife violated this very order when they attended a swanky birthday party event at The French Laundry restaurant in Napa Valley. When asked by media about it, Newsom said, “I made one mistake. I own that. Now it’s time to move on.”
  • Governor Gavin Newsom and the “First Partner” (his wife) recently purchased a $9.1 million home in Marin County. The “mansion” is 5,600 square feet, with Newsoms paying 7 percent above the asking price. Do you know how much income it takes to purchase a $9 million home?
  • In 2018-2019, an LLC registered to Newsom’s cousin, business partner, and Co-President of PlumpJack, Jeremy Scherer, paid $3.7 million cash for a Fair Oaks estate in December 2018. In Oct 2019, the LLC “gifted” the home to the Newsoms free and clear, claiming Newsom was a member of the LLC to avoid a $4,000 Transfer Tax. In January 2020, the Newsoms received $2.7 million tax-free when they obtained a cash-out refinance, Jen Van Laar reported at Redstate.
  • As Jennifer Van Laar reported in 2020, Newsom had “chronically delinquent property taxes in both Marin and Sacramento counties: Newsom’s delinquent on more than $20,000 in property taxes for his Kentfield estate (which was last listed for $5.9 million) according to the Marin County Department of Finance’s website.”

The Newsoms will retain the six-bedroom Fair Oaks $3.7 million home where he will spend several nights a week with his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, news.meaww.com reported.

Isn’t anyone in California’s mainstream media curious about these very shady real estate deals?

As an added bonus, enjoy this meltdown by Gavin Newsom. Share it.

  1. This must be just like the last days of Rome! What a circus!
Only things missing are the togas!
Regardless, I hope we can all enjoy life among the ruins of the once-upon-a-time Golden State!

  2. Looks like we might lose on Prop 50 (vote NO!). Is there any way to use the Porter and Newscum meltdowns in the Vote NO on Prop 50 ads?

  3. yet the CA voter seems to be willing to give the Democrats even more power with prop 50?

After all the damage that Gavin has done and Bass to LA?

  4. No one in their right mind would vote for an obnoxious lawyer from Iowa like Katie Porter? She had to have been installed into the U.S. House of Representatives with Democrat voter fraud? She’s a career Democrat who could never make a living as a lawyer in private practice and she’d starve if taxpayers weren’t supporting her.

    1. Politico reported that a newly surfaced video shows Katie Porter blasting a staffer who interrupted a meeting the former House member was taping for the Biden administration. The former Congresswoman seamlessly switched from a professional tone while discussing environmental policy with then-Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm to an angry and rude tone lambasting of a staffer who innocently popped into frame. “Get out of my f–king shot,” the short-tempered Porter screamed at her surgical mask-wearing staffer, the clip showed.

      1. Yes, TJ. When the left-wing media like Politico starts going after a Dem, that person (i.e., Porter) is in deep do-do. The other Dems are waiting like vultures on a fence ready to consume the carcass of Porter’s campaign; as they all anticipate a victory on Prop 50. Losing on Prop 50 would throw the entire group into a panic. This would be a signal to Porter that perhaps she needs a NEW approach……like start eating more salads? Of course, let’s not forget Newscum……Dude, use less hair-gel?

  5. Nothing screams, “leader” more than a repulsive, elitist, arrogant, smug, Congresswoman who has never had to answer a FOLLOW UP QUESTION!
How dare a real journalist ask a follow up question!

She is Gavin Newsom in a dress! She is so confident in the rigged game she knows her final opponent will be a Republican. She is so confident in the rigged system she does not want or have a need for a conservative to vote for her!

[Watts asks, “What if it’s a Democrat?”
“I don’t intend that to be the case,” Porter answers.
“How do you not intend that to be the case?” Watts asks.]

Get out the vote and convince just one neighbor, friend or family member to drop the Democrat affiliation . Time to turn this state red.
Let’s turn the 48% Republican vote to 60%!
Katie can you win without 60% percent of the vote?
    She really is detestable!

  6. Great article from Katy Grimes on all of these delicious politician face-plants and humiliations, featuring of course the infamous Worst Governor Ever Gavin Newsom AND the Worst Candidate Ever Katie Porter. What a pair! They should take their act on the road… together. On the other side of the globe. And get out of our hair and our lives.
“Gavin Newsom’s moment of Zen” from Politico? Gee, I missed that one. Ha HA!
In the “Gavin’s meltdown” clip posted above, I’ve seen it so many times by now that over time I’ve become fascinated by the way Gavin steps backwards into a limo while he rages at the reporter. Who says the man has no talent?
The video below is always fun. Here is the super-touchy, super-angry, super-embarrassing Gavin as S.F. mayor, same guy we see nowadays, offended at not getting the powder puff treatment he is so used to and expects. Enjoy:
“Hank Plante & Gavin Newsom Testy Interview”

    1. Whoops — so sorry, I missed that the Hank Plante interview had already appeared in Dr. Hemmati’s X post. sigh

  7. Katie Porter’s viral meltdown seems to be everywhere today and more videos of her outbursts are making the rounds.
It has me wondering the more I see her I do wonder how she identifies?
    She/Her ? He/Him ? They/Them ?

Hopefully this will be her undoing.

    1. Calif Democrat Mean Machine mockingbirds are working furiously to take Katie down. It is what they do if they fear any opposition to their own chosen ones: Alex Padilla is allegedly The One they have been waiting for. So Katie now has to go down fast and hard.

Pile it on, Democrats. Who cares if you are stealing our “democracy” so we never even need to actually vote – you make our decisions for us up front.

  8. Don’t let the Democrat Mean Machine slur factory take Katie Porter down early and hard. Give her a chance to make her case in a fair contest. This is now the Democrat operating policy- decide among themselves who they want and destroy any competition before they even get a chance on the public stage.

Katie Porter obviously scares the pants off the Democrat machine.

They want to install Alex Padilla instead, who is the much more compliant choice of SEIU, teachers unions and the construction trades unions feasting off government contracts. They want the Democrat slush machine to continue unabated.

Yale/Harvard Law magna cum laude Katie Porter just might be too independent for teem to control. May the best GOP win, but taking down the Democrat Mean Machine is a good victory too.

    1. Nothing will make Porter drop out. Padilla is heavily invested in Prop 50 with his “take down” ad when he barged in on Kristi Noem’s meeting. Prop 50 could be defeated if enough Independents (the NPP crowd) votes NO. I think that this would stop any Padilla run.

  9. Good point Jaye, and good advice. God forbid Alex Padilla should get into this race.
There’s a similar warning from Katy Grimes in her piece, it seems, I noticed.
Forewarned is forearmed, even if Katie Porter is a nightmare.

    1. Here’s hoping Katie Porter stays in the race. We want her to and she most likely will, because she really is as narcissistic and clueless as Newsom. She’s not going to let a “little bump” like this recent exposure stand in her way.

      1. If Democrats really wanted to out-Trump, Trump they would be backing Katie Porter and not slime ball Padilla.

Democrats still think all they need to do is please SEIU and the teachers unions so Padilla is their man. But voting demographics are changing radically in California.

Gen Z caught on to what Democrats have done to them and they are BigMad – this is why they refuse to register as Democrats. And this time they will stop voting like Democrats too. Tax and spend now means they get stuck paying for all the goodies Democrats hand out to illegals, but not a dime comes back to them. They get this.

  10. Robert Rivas may be the most concerning.

He’s the quintessential Newsom carry over destructor.

Rivas like Newsom and unlike Trump has “stones’ and appears uncompromised.

  11. My bet is Katie Porter will be no friend to the Democrats, if/when she gets in. Democrats just kicked her in the teeth big time. She does not look like a person that forgives and forgets. I like this Trumpiness in her.

She knows what kind of games Democrats play, and she just became their designated road kill. You know the old saying, a conservative is a Democrat who got mugged. Democrats just mugged Katie Porter. Pass the popcorn. With the new media, she no longer needs them. Which is why even the long-languishing GOP has a good shot this year too.

  12. Pro tip – if you print out a picture of Katie Porter and put it in your front room window it will not just keep evil spirits away, but everyone else, as well. That’s if the picture doesn’t break the window first.
