King Newsom, His Arrogance, and the Massive Devaluation of California Citizens
Connect the dots and determine the nexus of the non-profit integrated ‘healthcare’ industrial complexes
By Patrick Wagner, MD, July 18, 2026 10:13 am
The takeover of free enterprise medicine in the state of California by Newsom and his predecessors, and then the transforming of it into communist healthcare, has come at great cost to the people of California, including physicians like me and the rest of the 100,000 plus doctors practicing here, and you. I watched it happen during my career in Sacramento, and there is nothing I could do to prevent it and help us. But there is something you and I can do now, and that’s what this paper is about!
This takeover had two profound effects on me when the federal and California government thieves and killers took over. The new method of payment for my services to patients and the amount of payment was inadequate for me to go on; and the complete takeover of my skill and judgment was unethical. Every covenant of the Hippocratic Oath I swore was breached by Democrats, Newsom, and the healthcare industrial complex and I refused to be one of his tools of tyranny. This all culminated in 2004, when I dropped my operating and admitting privileges at Dignity Healthcare (then called Mercy General Hospital) and Sutter Health (then called Sutter General and Sutter Memorial Hospitals), a sad day in my life.
The time has come to end Newsom’s tyranny. The evidence of his unbridled power and arbitrary destruction of the economy and medical profession in California is underway via the DOGE waste, fraud, and abuse investigation of President Trump, and soon will transform Newsom from hero to zero.
Why did Democrats, the bureaucratic structure of California government, and almost all of the elected officials (including Newsom most recently), within this wayward partisan California power peddler do all these wicked things to the people of California over time? It is because of hostility toward the private sector, toward business, and toward the whole idea of anything or anyone who can show a profit! Profit is an unacceptable word to them. Simply put, Newsom, his predecessors, and the progressive bureaucratic machine has always been and remains so envious of the medical profession that they decided to conquer it, own it, control it, regulate it, and steal all our taxpayer funds for their own benefit. This is why we must stop him and them!
How can doctors as a profession fight that? They can’t. Doctors are supposed to be gentle, kind, caring, empathetic, compassionate, and follow the laws of ethical physicians. Instead, they were cheated out of their due income and forced to do the will of Newsom! Doctors don’t fight; they heal! But when they are forced to work for a tyrant, they become punching bags, rummy headed, hopeful for a paycheck, completely punched out of any ethical standards, devoid of economic initiative, cowardly, resentful, and inflicted with wokeness. They need a double shot of fight! Show me a California doctor that doesn’t agree with what I just said, and I will show you an academic physician or scientist sellout in cahoots with King Newsom!
What do you think that has done to the quality of medical and surgical care in this state? The gold standard of medicine in California from before the tyrants made their move has eroded to the no class standard you are witnessing today. I DO NOT TRUST THIS SYSTEM, and guess what? I am at the age where cancer and heart disease take hold, and I need the assistance of qualified physicians and surgeons to take care of me, as do you, the way my private practice Sacramento colleagues and I took care of patients before Newsom and his predecessors came on the scene. We need excellent medical care for every single CITIZEN, birth to death. We need our doctors back!
How did this nonsense ever occur in the first place? The four big players in the Sacramento area decided to jump into bed with government in about 1985, when Mercy General Hospital and Sister Bridget, the administrator of that institution, decided to disband about half of the private practice physicians and surgeons in the Sacramento region of admitting privileges and operating privileges in Mercy General, and consolidating Mercy institutions in the area into Catholic Healthcare West and ultimately the EVIL Dignity Health. Sutter made the same evil move. Kaiser was an HMO from the start, a one stop shopping system, and became evil as well. And of course, UC Davis, the place I trained at, and which taught me how to be an ethical surgeon, copied the other three.
So, the collegiality and trusting and communicating nature of the private practice physician was no more. All four of these crooked integrated healthcare industrial complexes became subjects of Democrats and eventually “King Gavin” and the patients and doctors also became “subjects” of the crown, no longer “citizens” of the state. Note that Gavin Newsom was in high school in 1985!
Let us define Social Security, the way Ronald Reagan described it back in 1961 before he became the greatest governor of the state of California of all time. He said, “Social security is a form of savings to keep destitution from following unemployment by reason of death, disability or old age. And to this end Social Security was adopted, but it was never intended to supplant private savings, private insurance, or pension programs of unions and industries”. Wow, how about that for a caveat!
Medicare is an outright adjunct of Social Security, paid for out of your monthly Social Security check. And, it is the absolute REQUIREMENT of every citizen in America is to sign up with Medicare at age 65. It’s the law! Well, you might say, that’s great! Now I’m entitled to government run healthcare for the rest of my life, especially if I didn’t live my life providentially, meaning a lifestyle of self-reliance, wise resource management, and foresight. Providential emphasizes living joyfully within one’s means, avoiding debt, cultivating practical skills, and maintaining a general and emergency preparedness plan such that you NEVER EVER become a burden upon your fellow Californians, including your family.
If you are old, where do you fit on that scale? All you have to do is check your pocketbook and determine if you were gainfully employed, i.e. profiting and diligently saving throughout your life! Did you blow it, or are you solid? Based on President Reagan’s definition of Social Security, do you need Social Security? If so, the only person you can blame is our oversized, oppressive, swindling government and yourself.
It was about the year 2012, when the Tea Party was strong, when a constitutional lawyer explained to me what Social Security really is. I was shocked, but it’s true. Social Security is a Ponzi scheme, plain and simple. A Ponzi scheme is an investment swindle in which some early investors are paid off with MONEY put up by later ones in order to encourage more and bigger risks. And Medicare? An adjunct of Social Security! The by-product of a Ponzi scheme. Ponzi schemes never work.
Let’s connect the dots and determine the nexus of the non-profit integrated “healthcare” industrial complexes defined above. It is Medicare! In 1951, an organization called the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals (JCAH), was established by Washington, DC. The name changed to Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) in 1987 and is now known as simply The Joint Commission.
The Joint Commission makes periodic “inspections” of nearly every hospital, clinic, lab, imaging center and so forth in California to be sure these facilities are worthy of seeing to the needs of Medicare patients. What arrogance! That is the mechanism of Communist Medicine in California! All medical facilities must take care of Medicare patients and thus all patients 65 and above have the right to enter these facilities. Medicare is a cheating scam devised by cheating politicians that has blown away all the Hippocratic covenants of the medical profession and has taken over control of every doctor and facility of healing in California.
Here we are approaching the mid-term election in California and our state government continues to tell us that we need universal Newsomcare! I recently decided to check out the difference between the best governor in California history (Reagan) and measure him up against the worse governor in California history, King Newsom; kind of kicking the tires. And at the same time, checking in on Prop 13!
There is an amazing organization called THE ASSOCIATION OF AMERICAN PHYSICIANS AND SURGEONS (AAPS) that was founded and began operating in 1943, and is a politically conservative non-profit association, advocating for free-enterprise, private practice medicine. This group OPPOSES government involvement in healthcare, and is made up of private practice, common sense doctors from all over America.
Recently when talking with their astute business manager, I learned that ex-governor Ronald Reagan spoke with the AAPS while beginning his campaign for President. This was in 1978 and it was the 38th annual national meeting. And he took along a fireplug named Howard Jarvis for some THUNDER! While governor, Reagan helped Jarvis shape prop 13, so he brought him along to jazz up this amazing talk. Notice that ex-governor Reagan (1978) had just ended his two-term job as California governor, as Newsom now approaches the end of his. Reagan was campaigning for President, as Newsom now is in the process of doing. The only real difference between King Newsom’s reign and Reagan/Jarvis is the exponentially different amounts of money involved, with reference to government inflation, as Reagan points out. The different ideologies are the same. In 1978, Newsom was an 11 year old boy!
Here are the transcripts of both men’s speeches to the top organization of private practice physicians in America at the time.
Jarvis, AAPS, 1978Reagan, 1978 AAPS annual meeting
It makes clear the ongoing and intensifying tyranny and destruction that Newsom has caused. I graded Governor Reagan with an A, and Governor Newsom with an F. I graded Howard Jarvis and prop 13 with an A, and Governor Newsom and his campaign to clobber prop 13 with an F.
I hope you read these documents and then evaluate and watch President Trump smash King Newsom with the DOGE investigation. Watch Dr. Oz, a talented heart surgeon, expose Newsom’s hard heart, so Father Schmitz can soften it (learn about Schmitz in a couple of paragraphs). With Trump, we have all the cards! That Newsom would divert trillions of taxpayer dollars besides the paltry amount of cash promised via Medicare to California doctors and patients, and literally kill many, many California human beings via neglect and rationing, is almost unthinkable. Just think of what Covid alone did to this state! Never again!
Yes, Newsom must go. I watched a YouTube video on July 5, 2026, prepared and delivered by Father Mike Schmitz, commemorating our 250th anniversary, and it really hit home. You and I have the right to “freedom of enterprise” medicine, and that right is bestowed to us by God. A government does not have the right to bestow or withdraw our rights. Father Schmitz goes on to explain that our government only has the job of PROTECTING our rights! Amen!
To further clarify and help you understand modern Sacramento healthcare under the leadership of King Newsom and not picking on any of the four of these integrated healthcare industrial non-profit systems because they all operate under the authority of Newsom, I would like to share a little story.
My grandson, my son’s son, got bitten by a rattlesnake a month or two ago, and he was ambulanced to Sutter hospital in Sacramento. It required 4 days in the pediatric ICU, and 36 vials of anti-venom called CroFab, at a cost of 10,000 dollars per vial to stabilize his condition. Add to that the cost of 4 days in the ICU.
My son and his family have an HMO that couples with the Sutter Industrial Complex. I doubt he will ever have to pay a bill! My grandson is doing just fine. The point of this story is to echo President Reagan’s point before he became president and spoke at the AAPS event in 1978. He said there was never a more urgent need for doctors, patients, and citizens from other industries in California to communicate than now. He had seen a national poll that said 90% of people were aware there is a health care crisis in the United States, but then the poll continued saying, “well no” they didn’t have any problems themselves. Most people are just cruising, even today. He applauded not only a wonderful group of doctors at that meeting, but he was also appreciative of the Farm Bureau for listening in on his “mashed potato circuit” and wants businesses of all sorts to compare notes about tyranny. The oil and gas industry, for example.
Back in September 13, 2012, a medical author by the name of G. Keith Smith, MD, an Oklahoma anesthesiologist, presented a paper that was published by AAPS. Please look at it. It’s not about rattlesnake anti-venom, but scorpion anti-venom. His conclusion at the end of this excellent piece has a wonderful question. Why don’t we organize and develop doctor and citizen (patient) hospitals and thus avoid the loser government altogether? It turns out that the government doesn’t make things safer and more affordable via their regulations and taxation but rather makes everything unsafe and completely unaffordable!

The “moral of this paper” is that we had better start accounting for every single dollar that we spend in our doctor patient relationship and keep the interference of King Newsom’s sticky fingers out, such that we can develop the most amazing free enterprise (capitalism) system in the history of the world, with safeguards, like mandating that government doesn’t bestow or take away our rights but protects them! If we put our heads together or our marbles together, as Howard Jarvis put it in his speech to the AAPS in 1978, we can make medical and surgical care easily affordable, competent, satisfying, safe, and secure from tyrannical King Newsom, and replace this guy with somebody who believes in the miracle of capitalism!
Who knows? When we are lovingly done with King Newsom, he might join us. I refer you to former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich who went to federal prison back in 2009. You see this gentleman on Fox News, and he seems to be a stand-up patriot! Love your enemies, pray for your enemies, forgive your enemies, and watch what happens! One thing for sure, we will be a United California, contributing to the greatest medical and surgical system in the world, the USA!

1985, about the same time the growth of public sector unions offering “free health care” as union-bargained employment benefit. The change was immediately obvious as more and more 3rd-party insurance forms flooded medical and later dental offices around that same time .
Cash and fee for service medical care delivery was quickly shown out the door. And “health care” costs exploded.
The schism between those getting “free health care” through their government job union benefits, and the rest who were still fee for service medical care patients widened to the breaking point. What the government was willing to pay for “free health care” for its union members, became the new floor that everyone else was now expected to now pay as well. Medical costs exploded and billable medical procedures exploded. There was no going back now. Enter the $14 aspirin during any hospital stay.
Does my insurance cover this? That became the first question asked when medical advice was suggested by the doctor.
Obamacare’ greatest error was equating ” universal heath care” as merely having medical insurance coverage. The furious cash grab from that point on never ceased .
Access to a third-party payor is NOT health care. It is a cash grab for a commodity called “health care” only, and numbers of “procedures” is no substitute for “health care either” as a measure of successful health care delivery. But that is where we are to day.
The unexplored doctor patient relationship question still unexplored: What kick-backs just might have under-girded that original unholy alliance – the massive guaranteed government employee union deep pockets, and the highly lucrative health care delivery monopolies offered to this guaranteed public sector union base of health care customers.
Mainly tax payers now forced now to pay whatever this unholy health insurance/public sector union collusion now demands, or there is hell to pay with the hundreds of thousand of employees now on the taxpayer funded payrolls in this state – 500,000 and counting at least.
Kick back investigations please. Hidden cameras, wired participants, whistle blowers when government unions and health care companies meet to strategize their next rise in health insurance premiums. When their guaranteed deep pockets are the California tax payers, forced to pay whatever this very curious “market” demands.
