Progressive State Democrat Launches Bid For Nevada Lieutenant Governor
In an odd, tightly-scripted campaign announcement, Sandra Jauregui’s pitch is high-and-outside the role of the Lt. Gov

Today, California native and Nevada Assemblywoman Sandra Jauregui (D-Las Vegas) launched her bid for Lieutenant Governor. Jauregui was first elected to the state legislator in 2016 after working for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and is a survivor of the October 1, 2017 Las Vegas shooting.
In her capacity as assemblywoman and Majority leader, she sponsored numerous pieces of gun control legislation–vetoed twice by Republican Governor Joe Lombardo, universal “free” lunch programs for K-12 students–vetoed, rent control legislation–vetoed, and authored film tax credit legislation to subsidize the expansion of Hollywood studios into Las Vegas, which may be heard during an upcoming special session of the legislature.

In her odd, tightly-scripted campaign announcement, Jauregui pitches what she will fight for as Lieutenant governor: lowering housing and healthcare costs, fighting for schools, and bringing back tourism and jobs.

Despite her numerous campaign promises outlined in her announcement, the Lieutenant Governor’s primary responsibilities is tourism, transportation, and economic development. The Lieutenant Governor chairs the Nevada Commission on Tourism, and serves on the Board of Transportation and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development.
In an interview with a local news outlet, Jauregui said, “I’m going to fight like hell to create good paying jobs in Nevada, and I’m going to continue to fight for safer communities.”
Fighting “like hell” is commendable, but Jauregui’s campaign pitch is high-and-outside the role of the Lt. Governor. If she were to secure reelection in the Assembly, she could continue to “fight for schools and safer communities” and attempt to lower housing and healthcare costs, but she abandoned her bid for reelection months ago to run against Lieutenant Governor Stavros Anthony (R).
Lt. Gov Stavros Anthony’s campaign responded to Jauregui’s announcement with the following statement from campaign spokesman Raymond Serrano:
“Stavros Anthony has a record of results. He’s spent a career in law enforcement keeping our communities safe, and he’s carried that same commitment to public safety into public office. He’s fought for small businesses, expanding the nonpartisan Office of Small Business Advocacy to cut red tape and help Nevada entrepreneurs solve real problems. As Chair of the Nevada Commission on Tourism, he’s helped grow our economy by supporting rural development and marketing grants that create jobs across the state. He also created the Task Force to Protect Women’s Sports to preserve fairness and integrity in female athletics.
Sandra Jauregui’s record tells a different story. She refused to back Governor Lombardo’s effort to lower the felony theft threshold and didn’t support tougher penalties for fentanyl traffickers after those provisions were stripped from the Governor’s crime bill. Her housing proposals have added new regulations and mandates that make it harder and more expensive to build or rent in Nevada, driving up costs for families and property owners alike. And no elected official in Nevada’s history has done more to restrict the rights of peaceful, law-abiding gun owners than Sandra Jauregui. She’s pushed legislation that would turn ordinary Nevadans into felons, violating both the U.S.and Nevada Constitutions guarantees of individual gun rights. Voters deserve a clear choice. One candidate has spent his life protecting Nevada families and delivering real results. The other has shown, time and again, that she won’t.”

Just another Cali Carpetbagger trying to “californiacation” Nevada. That’s a big NO vote from me.
