State Launches $20 Million Program Aimed At Expanding, Diversifying ‘Reproductive Health Care Work Force’

Reproductive Health Service Corps becomes the latest state program to expand abortion access this year

Governor Gavin Newsom announced Wednesday that abortion services would be expanded once again in California through the new Reproductive Health Service Corps (RHSC), a new $20 million program that aims to increase and diversify the reproductive health care workforce to better serve all communities.

Since 2021, California has increased abortion access as well as abortion access laws. With a swing in the ideology makeup of the U.S. Supreme Court and the court indicating that they would soon take on an abortion case, California lawmakers made California an abortion sanctuary state. Following the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization ruling in the U.S. Supreme Court last year that removed the federal right to an abortion, the state ramped up access and began to attract out of state abortion seekers. This included new laws that ended abortion procedure co-pays, ads in other states about the ease of abortion in California, and the passage of Proposition 1 last November protecting reproductive freedom.

With other states either adding or eliminating abortion access this year, California has doubled down on open and greater access to reproductive and abortion rights. This has included stockpiling abortion pills, passing an $8 million increase for abortion security, and Governor Newsom signing 9 bills this year alone on abortion protections and expansion. A group of 22 states, including California, also formed a coalition in February with the aim at protecting and expanding abortion rights.

This led California to another major expansion on Wednesday with the $20 million Reproductive Health Service Corps program. According to the Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI), both RHSC and the Pharmacists Comprehensive Abortion and Reproductive Health Empowerment (Pharmacists CARE) Initiative will be funded to diversify the reproductive health care workforce, and to have pharmacists provide comprehensive reproductive health services. Funds will go towards diversification of the workforce, creating new training pathways, and filling provider gaps in underserved areas.

“In this volatile time after the overturning of Roe v. Wade by extremist judges, California will continue to support women in  California and across the country,” said Governor Newsom on Wednesday in a statement. “We have invested hundreds of millions of dollars to expand access to services, support people in need of care, and protect people providing care. Regardless of what out-of-touch and radical politicians may do, California will continue its nation-leading fight for reproductive freedom.”

A $20 million reproductive health expansion

HCAI Director Elizabeth Landsberg added that “Investing in the future of reproductive health is not just a financial commitment; it’s a commitment to equity, accessibility, and empowering communities. The $20 million investment in California’s Reproductive Health Service Corps and the Pharmacists CARE Initiative marks a pivotal moment in our collective efforts to transform reproductive health care. Together, we strive to bridge gaps, diversify our health care workforce, and empower pharmacists to play a crucial role in comprehensive reproductive health services.”

Opponents, however, have said that the new programs are unneeded due to the state’s already diverse reproductive health initiatives, and that the funding could have good to areas much more in need of funds.

“Looking past the issue of abortion itself, this funding was not really needed,” said Louisa Gonzalez, a nurse who assisted in abortions, to the Globe on Thursday. “The workforce is already incredibly diverse. There may be less people going into it now, but that’s just because there are more lucrative health care positions elsewhere. You want more people in the productive health field, then pay more. And as for those provider gaps, there are enough clinics across the state where the vast majority of the population can get to one with ease. In bigger cities, that even means if they don’t have a car.

“This is a problem that largely just does not exist, yet the state is trying to make it sound like it is an all-white or all-Latino staff and that they are not attracting anyone in. That $20 million is needed so much more in other areas of health care in the state, especially with reproductive health services seeing huge boosts in funding in the last few years.”

More abortion-related legislation is expected to be introduced when the next legislative session begins in January.

  1. Is this a joke? Hope it is but fear it’s not.
More slaps in the face from Gavin & the Gang. What else is new?
They just can’t help themselves when it comes to their obsession with death, and then they think they’ve normalized it so much that they apply some stupid ‘social justice’ standard to make it ‘fair’ for the murderers and their abettors. It’s so bizarre it’s almost comical, but of course IT’S NOT FUNNY.
P.S. “Reproductive health care” my eye. Knock it off.

  2. So everybody’s going to get the same *reproductive health care* as before, it’ll just cost an extra $20.000.000

  3. I can just imagine Newsom et. al sitting in a dark, dank room , Buffy seated at his right, conspiring to spend our tax dollars on baby murder! They can call it what they want, it is plainly premeditated murder with many involved who now have blood on their hands.
In truth reproductive health is the quite the reverse, it is to PRESERVE the health of a woman’s ability to give birth.

I find it ironic that many women who prioritize a career over having children spend thousands of dollars to PRESERVE their eggs which is some cases is corporate sponsored (Google) .They spend so much physical time, emotional energy and money at infertility clinics to create life. It is a painful process yet they do it because the desire to bear a child is so innate.

So what is this really about? Again power and control. The power to take away a life! The control of who should procreate!
What kind of return are these ghouls getting on their money?
I guess the monetary incentive to take away a life is very profitable for all involved in this heinous act.
This is not about reproductive health.
Newsom proves what a ghoul he really is. Newsom should just be straight and call it what it really is, abortion funding.

    ~ 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

    1. Yes, CG, dankness, darkness, Gruesome and Buffy at the table planning and providing funding for more murder and death, paints the picture well. Bonus points for making the “health care workers” government employees to add to the shrinking public employee union rolls! So there’s that…
In addition to not just making sure that the babies of the “underserved” are killed off, as many as possible sounds like the goal, but this will also help to further dispirit, depress, and ultimately kill the souls of even more affected women. Not to mention compromising in the same way “health workers” who aid in this process and become WAY too accustomed to it. The death-dealing and soul-killing ramifications are endless. And our witch legislators (e.g. Buffy) and demon-chasing governor (Gavin) are PROUD of it.
      As you know…

      1. Wow @Show!
Very well said, I do believe and history has shown that programs like this target the “underserved”.
It is meant to discount life. Yes, it is soul crushing.
As I have gone through life, I have witnessed the destruction to those that live with the consequences that Buffy advocates for. I really do not know one person that lives with regret, except for Buffy the Baby Slayer, so she says!

  4. This concerns me. Every time they expand “reproductive rights” they go after Crisis Pregnancy Centers”. The places where folks receive real hope in a time of great need. For the last few years, I have severed at our local CPC and I have been privileged to see how God moves/intervenes in these situations. Real freedom comes from a healing of fear not from the rights that Newsom is offering which only bring enslavement.

  5. Well, at least they’re consistent in their perverted sense of virtue and justice. In a domain that encourages the slaughter of unborn children, it turns out there is an even more heinous sin – insufficient diversity.

  6. Just imagine how much putting that money towards building a new reservoir would benefit more California residents….
The fraud, waste and MIS-management of state resources is just MIND-BOGGLING….
