The DC Establishment has Become California
Was Biden’s ousting a coup or just another day in Golden State?

There has been much talk of a Kamala Harris presidency bringing California to DC.
Much of that talk is in the form of a warning to the rest of the nation: Do not, under any circumstances, let the United States become California, as it stands today, writ large.
The crime, the poverty, the utterly two-tier society, the non-existent – save for government workers – middle class, the incompetence, the degradation, the empowerment of whichever lunatic happens to be shouting loudest at the moment, etc.
Some have opined that, sure, California has a bit rough patches and it’s going through some changes like everywhere else, but it’s still the fifth largest economy in the world, has lots of billionaires and movie stars and beaches and trees and.. well, you know the rest (either those who do not live here and/or have a personal profit motive).
A short aside – it doesn’t matter if California has the fifth of fiftieth largest economy in the world if it cannot accommodate its residents. In other words, a 747 is a great big plane but it does not have an infinite number of seats and if you overload it it will crash.
But what has been missed in the Californication discussion to this point is the fact that it has already begun – exhibit A: the defenestration of Joe Biden.
Shoving Biden onto the ice flow has been called the right thing to do; it has been called a shrewd political move; it has been called a coup. What it hasn’t been called yet is business as usual in California.
For the uninitiated, California’s power structure consists of a few hundred people and groups, mostly centered around the city that was once San Francisco, some people in Sacramento, a few tokens from the Central Valley, and a gaggle of media personalities.
That’s it – and they all know each other and they also know that some of them are just a bit more “equal” than others.
Like DC, California is a one-party state run by those who have the power to make their will manifest. The legislature is made up of people chosen by the power brokers and imposed upon the “rotten districts” at will.
But Republicans in DC, you say, control the House of Representatives, at least? Hopelessly inept, stifled at every turn, and not exactly internally loyal to the concepts of freedom and democracy – a lot of members want into the uniparty blob so badly they can taste while those opposed give the press every opportunity possible to portray them as lunatics (admittedly, often deservedly.)
So, in DC, Republicans do not count – in Sacramento, they do not exist.
The business/lobbyist Sacramento is made up of are people who have passed the blob loyalty test – the permanent bureaucracy can never be challenged, tamed, or fixed, and the shadow of the string-pullers hangs over every decision, every move, every thought.
And in California, if the blob does not like you, you are gone. Countless politicians, no matter the party and ideas, no matter if left or righ, have been mercilessly crushed, sometimes because they posed a direct threat to the power structure, sometimes out of the reflexive instinct of the cabal to destroy anything that came from outside its purview.
Sometimes, the crushing happens in a serpentine way: Arnold Schwarzenegger, in order to remain personally popular with the blob when it stopped treating him like a move star and like an opponent, dropped all efforts at reform and focused on climate change, i.e. expanding the power of the state.
Sometimes the crushing is petty. For example, the Speaker of the Assembly literally has the power of not only handing out committee assignments, but literal physical office space. Under numerous different speakers, both Democrats and Republicans have found themselves moved from nice State Capitol offices to broom closets down the third-adjunct hallway, left up the stair, past the photocopier, and just beyond the “beware of the mountain lion” sign.
It is the same in DC, the only difference being that California Democrats don’t have their own local versions of the CIA or NSA…yet. The “deep state” in DC is the security apparatus and the unelected agency-based nomenklatura. In California, the bureaucracy is controlled directly by the power structure that spans public, private, and “civil society” groups.
Example: Pacific Gas and Electric is the most powerful private company in the state and has been for years, doling out favors and jobs as it sees fit and making sure its top employees move seamlessly back and forth between the company the agencies that regulate it. Even though the actual cash layouts may now be eclipsed by Silicon Valley, it has been the backbone of the San Francisco power structure for decades. It is a permanent fixture in the Democratic firmament, making sure that what needs to be done gets done.
It is also a company that has literally been convicted of killing people, and, in a hypocritical twist that would be perfectly at home in DC, is a utility that uses evil fossil fuels while its beneficiaries tout California as the greenest state in the country.
The whole system is a testament to depraved unchecked power, so unchecked that the electeds ( speakers included) who move through it are disposable, interchangeable, no matter how relevant they seemed just moments ago, unless they get to move up into the heart of the beast on the lobbying or corporate side.
And that brings us back to Joe Biden.
Now, the Democratic Party can pick its nominee however it chooses – it is its own thing. But what just occurred should cause every Democrat to lose faith in the party – democracy does not die in darkness, it seems, but on Nancy Pelosi’s cell phone.
As previously posited by many, the early debate was a test run and the knives were poised even before it began.
Biden failed even more spectacularly than expected and the work of Californicating him began in earnest. Drips and drabs of concern – but many people staying loyal – peppered the airwaves, all coordinated by the San Francynical political mafia.
The dozens of coordinated cuts became hundreds and then thousands and then Pelosi signaled it was time for the final floodgate of pain to open.
This is how California works – bit by bit, at first seemingly reasonable, and then the moment of intentional overwhelming.
From the self-serving bureaucracy to the collaborationist media to the rank hypocrisy, the power systems have become the same.
And in Harris – once the cabal got over the “who, her? really?” astonishment – Biden stabbing at them from the darkness by his endorsement – they realized that Kamala would not actually be a problem.
She grew up – she was created – by the very system that was used to bounce her boss. And to claim she had no inkling of what was occurring the moment it started is to deny that the sun sets in the west.
In other words, Kamala could be trusted to go along with anything, a key attribute of the California Way.
Because as long as you do not directly threaten the power structure, you can do what you want in California politics. Hence the trans atrocities, the gender mania, the giving away of more free everything, etc. – that’s all “toy department” stuff meant to distract anyone who may think about looking to closely at actual levers of power.
California politics are a fog of anger and confusion and pathos and was the template for the removal of Biden.
The DC establishment has become California – it put Biden in, it had no qualms about taking him out.
Welcome to the future.

What a nauseatingly sickening description of the true nature of California and Federal politics in 2024….
Feels pretty hopeless, until it all comes crashing down in flames, kinda like the Hindenburg….
Surprised I’m the first commenter, given the richness and insightfulness of the writer….
They’re probably as speechless as I was, initially…
Yes, indeed CriticalDfence9. As I read this article, I was sinking into hopelessness. In order to keep keeping on, a person has to have some measure of hope…..as little as it may be. 🙂
Mostly I am just showing up for local elections. I think that still has some worth. Since I am filling out the ballot anyway I just vote for DT.
