With no coastal property in sight, Iowa scores better than average over all the ranking factors listed in a new study of the best and worst states for retirees. California was at the bottom of the list of 50 states, coming in at 48th, ahead of Hawaii and Alaska respectively. The Hawkeye state, with the 8th lowest property prices in the country, came in #1 as pending retirees are looking to make the most of the low cost of living and its beautiful scenery, Blacktower Financial reports.
West Virginia has the lowest average property prices across all 50 US states.
Maine has the lowest crime rate on average across all 50 US states.
Hawaii has the highest life expectancy across all 50 US states.
Mississippi has the lowest cost of living on average across all 50 US states.
California Globe’s ongoing Leaving California series features eight articles about California residents, many natives of the Golden State, who decided to move away, and their reasons for the move. The ruling class of elite politicians, media and oligarchs are so far removed from the people, most have no idea that or why so many California residents are leaving the state for friendlier pastures, nor do they seem to care.
California is also always ranked as one of the worst states in the country in which to run a business, due to high corporate taxes and personal income taxes, and excessive regulations, while many other states are ranked at the top of the chart. While California is always ranked as one of the worst states in the country in which to run a business, Texas always ranks as one of the best. Chief Executive rankings show Texas in first place and California in an embarrassing last place at 50th.
Blacktower explained their measurements for the best and worst states for retirees:
On this scale, for
-
- Crime – The area/state with the highest rate of crime would be weighted closer to 0
- Cost of living – The area/state with the highest cost is weighted closer to 0
- 60 and over – lower % of population is weighted closer to 0
- Property prices – Higher property prices are deemed less desirable so are weighted down
- Life expectancy – Lower life expectancy is less desirable so weighted down
The top 10 states for retirees are Iowa, Minnesota, Vermont, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Idaho, Maine, New Hampshire, Florida and North Dakota.
The worst 10 states for retirees are Arkansas, New Mexico, Alabama, Nevada, Tennessee, Louisiana, Maryland, California, Hawaii, and Alaska.
Arkansas had a higher crime rate than California, but lower cost of living and property prices. New Mexico had the highest crime rate.
Hawaii beat California for highest home prices: Hawaii’s average property cost is $659,823, and California’s is $591,929.
