His life mattered to someone, and his killer is on the loose

UPDATE BELOW: As hundreds of concert goers waited in line at the Golden 1 Center Tuesday afternoon, a man lay dying of stab wounds just a few feet away in the commons area of the downtown arena mall in Sacramento. He later died of his injuries, KCRA reported.

Wednesday Fox 40 reported that the suspect and victim knew each other according to Sacramento Police. And SacPD said that “information on scene” indicates that the suspect and the victim were “unhoused.”

Normal people call them drug-addicted, mentally-ill homeless vagrants.

Downtown Sacramento is ground zero for violent crime – shootings, stabbings, robberies, homeless violence, and the like.

Our sleepy little cowtown is no longer. And it appears even gangbangers know this.

A YouTube channel called “Sacramento Gang Archives” recently revealed in a video the Most Dangerous Places to Go in Sacramento.

According to the gangbangers, these locations are well known as the Most Dangerous Places to Go in Sacramento:

  • Mack Road at Center Parkway – recent triple stabbing; hit and runs, shootings, people run over
  • Upper Level urban clothing – 1338 Howe Ave Sacramento
  • Gold USA in South Sac – where their specialty product is gold teeth
  • Arden Fair Mall – where 2 boys were recently shot and killed
  • Joe’s Crab Shack
  • Sunsplash Roseville – there was a stabbing there

In April 2022, six people were killed and 12 were wounded in a mass shooting in downtown Sacramento late one Saturday night/early Sunday morning, turning several blocks of the Capitol city into a massive crime scene.

It was evident early on this was a gang-involved shooting. The Globe learned that police activated gang teams to investigate the shootings.

Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg’s reaction to the shooting was to blame guns, as did Governor Gavin Newsom. Both seized the opportunity to call for even stricter gun control laws.

Breitbart reported that President Joe Biden also responded to the Sacramento shooting by pushing gun laws the state of California already has in place: “Ban ghost guns. Require background checks for all gun sales. Ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. Repeal gun manufacturers’ immunity from liability,” Biden said.

If the driver of a Chevy Suburban ran down these 16 people, the media would report “SUV kills 6, injures 10.” Would Mayor Steinberg blame SUV violence?

The guns didn’t shoot 16 people, the perpetrators did, and and as was reported, this wasn’t their first brush with the law:

Monday police announced they had one suspect in custody, 26-year-old Dandrae Martin, charged with assault and illegal firearm possession. They announced they were searching for a second gunman.

Tuesday morning, SacPD announced they arrested Smiley Martin, the 27-year-old brother of Dandrae Martin, the first suspect arrested in the shooting. Smiley Martin was in possession of a machine gun. Both brothers appear to have criminal records.

Immediately following the shootings, Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg joined crime victims, legislative leaders and the state’s “criminal justice reform” advocates “to call for immediate and substantial investments in crime prevention and healing services for crime victims.” His press statement said “Recent Mass Shooting in Sacramento Underscores Urgency to Prevent Crime and Harm Before They Occur.”

Steinberg’s group are all gun control and and defund-the-police advocates:

Steinberg’s highly paid lobbying group of “justice” agitators demanded “$3 billion of investments” from Gov. Gavin Newsom “to rapidly expand crime prevention programs in cities up and down the state and provide immediate cash assistance to victims.” A lot of good that did – other than to usher in more violent crime in downtown Sacramento.

Every crime in California is just another opportunity to shake down taxpayers, rather than solve the crime and incarcerate the criminals.

This response is what happens when politicians refuse to admit that their laws and policies have failed. As the Globe has consistently reported, California’s alarming cocktail of criminal justice “reforms” are responsible for the state’s ongoing crime wave. And the politicians ignore that they are responsible for these phony “reforms.” They are far from reforms and are instead unraveling California’s criminal justice laws, passed to keep the citizenry safe from criminals.

Now we have yet one more man stabbed to death, whatever the circumstances – homeless or not. His life mattered to someone. And his killer is on the loose.

Watch the video – it’s a little rough but is unequivocal:

UPDATE Nov. 16, 2023 – Sacramento Police caught the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Malik Wilson of Sacramento. In the evening of November 15, 2023, Sacramento Police Department Detectives arrested Wilson for homicide-related charges.

  1. Very sad indeed.
Darrel Steinberg is a fraud! He is not feckless, he is a fraud!
Was he not appointed by Newsolini to be the state homeless czar?
    How has that worked out?
If he took his role seriously and wanted to be a shining example of a true problem solver, he would have something to show for it.
Sacramento would have clean, safe streets. No tents, no open air drug dens, no mentally ill disturbances. There would be resources to get immediate help for the drug addled souls.
He could have bragging rights and show the rest of Cali there are common sense solutions but this is not the case because he is a FRAUD!

  2. Obviously our Democrat “leadership” is completely responsible for violent crime takeover of our cities. Have we had enough of it yet? If Gov Gavin Newsom and Mayor Darrell Steinberg, Mayor Bass, and all the rest of the CA Dem/Marxists who are fine with all this terror and mayhem in the public square were to get full-face and neck tattoos it would be a better reflection of who they really are than what we see now. For their neglect —- actually their outright encouragement — of the plague of violent crime in our cities they should be sharing jail cells with the shooters and stabbers, who should also be in prison for as long as we can keep them there and away from civilized people.
When all these politicians can do in response to a mass shooting is compile more slush funds and absurdly scream about “gun control” (by which they mean “take away law-abiding citizens’ ability to defend themselves”) it’s not surprising that many people have come to suspect that these shootings are engineered somehow so the politicians can make hay with it and stay in power. Pretty shocking to realize this is what we’ve come to, that we would even entertain such thoughts about our “leaders.” But it doesn’t really seem so unreasonable anymore, does it?

  3. San Francisco is glistening spiffy clean. Get your photos now while it lasts. And forever put to bed the notion that cleaning up “can’t be done.” Just gotta wanna…and Sac doesn’t.

    1. Yes, people won’t soon forget the two-day turnaround of San Francisco from years-long stinking hellhole to sparkling city, will they. That might be a problem for Gavin & the Gang.

  4. Sacramento natives like myself have always known that there were certain areas of the city to be avoided like Oak Park which were plagued with crime and gang activity. It’s sad to see that the crime and gang problems have metastasized throughout the Sacramento area and into formerly safe suburban communities like Elk Grove and Roseville. Part of the problem is the lack of proper parenting along with the soft on crime policies of Democrat politicians at the local and state level who have allowed crime and gang activity to get completely out of control.
