California’s Interesting Conflict Over Rep. Maxine Waters ‘Inciting Violence’ in Minnesota
Is telling already angry protesters to ‘get more confrontational’ protected speech?

(UPDATE below) House Minority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) warned House Speaker Nancy Pelosi he would “bring action” against Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA) after she traveled to Brooklyn Center, Minnesota Saturday night and incited violence by telling angry protesters to “get more confrontational.”
Brooklyn Center is the hot spot where thousands have been protesting the accidental police shooting death of Daunte Wright. Waters encouraged already inflamed protesters to “take to the streets” if Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin is not found guilty at his trial in the death of George Floyd.
Is telling already violent, angry protesters to “get more confrontational” protected speech, or is it equivalent to yelling “fire” in a crowded theater?
“Hours after Maxine Waters called for her violent revolutionaries to riot if Derek Chauvin is acquitted, the Minnesota NationalGuard and the Minneapolis Police Department neighborhood security team were fired upon,” the Independent Sentinel reported. “Two members of the guard had minor injuries. One of them was taken to the hospital with minor abrasions from shattered glass.”

Waters said, “We’ve got to stay in the streets, and we’ve got to demand justice. We’re looking for a guilty verdict, for murder.”
McCarthy said if Speaker Nancy Pelosi does not address Waters’ call for violence, he would “bring action this week.”
“Maxine Waters is inciting violence in Minneapolis — just as she has incited it in the past. If Speaker Pelosi doesn’t act against this dangerous rhetoric, I will bring action this week,” he Tweeted.

Breitbart reported:
“We’re looking for a guilty verdict,” Waters said. “And we’re looking to see if all of the talk that took place and has been taking place after they saw what happened to George Floyd, if nothing does not happen, then we know that we’ve got to not only stay in the street, but we’ve got to fight for justice. But I am very hopeful, and I hope we are going to get a verdict that says ‘guilty, guilty, guilty.’ If we don’t, we cannot go away.”
Asked in a follow-up question what protesters should do if Chauvin is not convicted of murder, Waters said, “we’ve got to stay on the street and we’ve got to get more active. We’ve got to get more confrontational. We’ve got to make sure they know we mean business.”
This isn’t Maxine Waters’ first attempt to gin up violence through violence-inciting rhetoric.
In 2018, Waters told supporters to harass Trump Administration officials wherever and whenever they were seen in public. CNN reported:
“Let’s make sure we show up wherever we have to show up. And if you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd. And you push back on them. And you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere. We’ve got to get the children connected to their parents,” Waters said.
Waters appeared on MSNBC later in the day to double down on her remarks, saying she has “no sympathy” for members of the Trump administration.
“The people are going to turn on them. They’re going to protest. They’re going to absolutely harass them until they decide that they’re going to tell the President, ‘No, I can’t hang with you.’”
After reporting “Senator Ted Cruz and controversial Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene also criticized Waters, who, over the weekend, joined demonstrations over the police shooting of Daunte Wright, a black 20-year-old shot and killed at a traffic stop by a white police officer, Kimberly Potter,” the DailyMailUK perpetuated the media/radical-left deception that President Trump incited the faux riot at the nation’s Capitol January 6th:
“Many of these Republicans accusing Waters of inciting violence did not make the same charge against then-President Donald Trump in the wake of the January 6th MAGA riot on Capitol Hill, that left five dead and trail of destruction throughout the Capitol,” the DailyMailUK said.
Speaker Pelosi has not announced if/when she will address Waters’ behavior over the weekend. One thing is for sure… this conflict between three California Representatives – two Congressional leaders and the third, Waters, the chairwoman of the powerful House Financial Services Committee – will be interesting.
UPDATE: The judge in the George Floyd trial issued a statement after Rep. Maxine Waters’ incitement comments were made.
Hennepin County District Judge Peter Cahill criticized Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) for her comments over the weekend regarding the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who’s charged with the murder of George Floyd, the Hill reported.
“I wish elected officials would stop talking about this case, especially in a manner that is disrespectful to the rule of law and to the judicial branch and our function,” Cahill said after the jury had been sequestered to begin deliberations on Monday. Chauvin’s defense attorney Eric Nelson expressed concern that Waters’s comments could have prejudiced the jury and were grounds for a mistrial.
Judge: "I’m aware that Congresswoman Waters was talking specifically about this trial & about the unacceptability of anything less than a murder conviction & talk about being confrontational." He calls her comments "disrespectful to the rule of law" & to the courts & "abhorrent." pic.twitter.com/ffShxrwgpy

Pelosi isn’t going to do anything. She didn’t do anything when “protestors” decided to attack statues in Washington, D.C. She excused the behavior. Besides, Pelosi is ever as much as a Communist as Waters, anti-White and racist.
Waters has no trust in “we the people” or the court system. But she wants a lynch mob at her beck and call.
All of this is just preliminaries to greater race conflict — likely a civil war about race.
Charles, I agree. But think about this….A “civil war about race” is EXACTLY what Xi Jinping wants. This is all fodder for Chinese communist propaganda against us. The businesses being destroyed by the rioters are for the most part small MINORITY owned; many by Blacks. The rioters are, for the most part, radical Whites. We need to focus on organizations like Antifa and BLM, infiltrate them and bring them down. It will be more difficult to do now because they have learned from tactics used in the 1960’s – 1970’s against the radical Left. They have now infiltrated the system – like the teachers’ union.
Throw her out of Congress! Now! She should be charged with trying to incite a riot and it’s not the first time.
Her and Pelosi are two of the biggest c_nts in Congress, the sooner they are eliminated the better off our nation will be.
Something is really wrong with this woman…….
That’s for sure, Stacy — couldn’t agree more.
I also agree with the idea that what she said is not protected speech because it is like yelling “fire” in a crowded theatre. Actually to me it sounded like a terrorist threat given U.S. cities were set on fire and subjected to violence and much more last summer (and beyond) from coast to coast — and she knows it.
Waters is certifiably insane, emotionally unstable and should be recalled for conduct unbecoming….
At the very least, a censure will require each member of the House to cast a vote. So, it will go on the record. We will see if any Democrat has the intestinal fortitude to do the right thing, and push back on Waters, Pelosi and the rest of the Democrat leadership who support this lawlessness.
Interesting that the Democrats foamed at the mouth when President Trump merely supported those protesting the legitimacy of the presidential election, but they remain silent when their racist instigator Waters flat out asks for violence.
Just for clarification, Donald Trump asked his supporters to proceed peacefully!
Maxine Watters demanded they take to the streets and get more confrontational, in a period that has already resulted in violence and destruction of cities which have already resulted in death. She is demanding and escalation!
In contrast she and her family have become very wealthy due to her position in Congress. Donald Trump accrued his wealth as a developer as a private citizen before he entered public life! She has gotten rich off the backs of taxpayers!
At the very least this is juror intimidation.
In my opinion, a guilty verdict will be overturned on appeal. It should be. This trial has had violations of due process besides Waters’ intervention. The jury is already tainted by media coverage and since they live in the community they cannot be dispassionate and are probably intimidated by the crowds. I would not want to be on that jury while living there myself. The venue should have been changed.
