Climate Cultist Calls Out the Globe for ‘Deadly Climate Emergency Denial’

‘Consensus’ on climate change has become a form of bullying, intimidation and censorship

By Katy Grimes, May 15, 2024 2:55 am

Following my article Monday, “NO Climate Crisis’ Says Coalition Of 1,600 Actual Scientists,” which is a fairly self-explanatory title, I received an email from an unhappy reader with this in the subject line:

“I’m wondering why you decided to amplify dangerous and deadly climate emergency denial.”

The article received a great deal of positive reaction from readers, on social media and in the media. People are very happy, relieved, and hopeful knowing that 1,600 real scientists signed that letter to the California Air Resources Board – a dangerous state agency of unelected Governor appointees who are illegally making laws without the Legislature, enlightening them on California’s actual climate with this: “California is in no danger of unusual drought: The annual precipitation in California has fluctuated greatly over the last 150 years, with only a slight decrease.”

It is especially timely with California Gov. Gavin Newsom jetting to the Vatican where he will be speaking at a Summit of mayors and governors tediously covering “the impact of rising temperatures” in local communities, and “climate resilience,” as if he is a climate scientist or climate expert.

I was going to suggest to “Julie Johnston from Canada” to leave a comment on the article. Then I thought I might just ignore her insufferable email. Then noticed that she actually left a comment on the article, burnishing her climate cultist credentials. Her article comment is far less inflammatory than her email to me, and Globe readers adroitly took her to task.

Here is her email to me with my reply below.

Dear Katy Grimes,

If you have a moment, could you explain why — in the midst of flooding all over the world (Texas, Brazil, China, Afghanistan, eastern Africa, all at the same time), huge evacuation-causing wildfires already starting up (actually, never going out completely) in the north (24,710 acres burning across western Canada already; Russia, too), killer heatwaves throughout South and Southeast Asia and Mexico, etc. — you would amplify a PR/publicity stunt meant to confuse and disinform your readers about the climate emergency?

Doesn’t a journalist research their sources before publishing a PR piece? (I got a diploma in journalism many moons ago, and I seem to recall that as a first principle.) Did you count how many “actual” CLIMATE scientists signed the CO2 Coalition (a denier group funded by fossil fuel interests)? If there are any, their names will be the dirty dozen or so of paid professional “sciencey” climate change deniers. Let me know if you’d like their names. Most of the “famous” ones are physicists, geologists (with the worst being geophysicists, because they mostly work for fossil fuel companies) and engineers. I speculate that it’s because they’re fields of science don’t include ecological learning, making them ecologically illiterate by training. Also, there is a lot of fossil fuel money to be made by “sciencey” climate change deniers.

People and other animals and our ecosystems around the world are dying every day because climate change deniers (who can’t deny climate change anymore, so they “just” deny the climate emergency) have caused SO MUCH delay in climate action.

If you want your paper to be a political rag, so be it (you noted how these “scientists” suddenly made it very political — oh, and economic; they like to conflate their political and economic worldview with climate science for some unfathomable reason). But your paper hs certainly lost any credibility as a source for climate change information.

You know what? Shame on you. You, too, conflated your paper’s political/economic views with the science of the climate emergency. You made a deadly decision, and you should retract it.

Julie Johnston
Canada

My reply, replete with expert research thanks to the 1,600 actual scientists:

Dear Julie from Canada,

Let me address each of your concerns starting with:

“The flooding all over the world,” “huge evacuation-causing wildfires already starting up,” and “killer heatwaves:”

  • there has been a clear declining record of wildfires in the United States since the 1930’s. The 1920’s-1930’s had 5-10 times the current level of wildfires. Satellite observations show that the number of wildfires are actually going down – since the 1930’s.
  •  “Killer Heatwaves” were actually a thing, again in the 1920’s – 1930’s when the temperatures were much hotter, and it is documented. North and South Dakota had recorded temperatures of 120 degrees in the 1930’s.
  • Hurricanes and flooding – not so fast. There has been no overall change in hurricanes and flooding in the U.S. in 120 years – other than currently being slightly down. There is no long term trend, according to climate scientists. I’ll even throw in melting ice caps in Antartica since the 1970’s – no increase whatsoever.

“Doesn’t a journalist research their sources before publishing a PR piece?”

  • Blah blah blah. You’ll notice that I not only quoted the 1,600 scientists, but for years have interviewed UCLA Dr. James Enstrom and colleagues regarding California’s claims of global warming and climate change.

Julie, You disparage the “actual” CLIMATE scientists who signed the CO2 Coalition…

  • I expected your climate cultist reaction. You clearly live and die on climate chaos as an undisputed fact. But, we know how this happened. Once academia started receiving funding from the government for “global warming” and “climate change,” academic researchers began applying for the climate funding, and commensurately began to produce “climate speak” in all of their research – to keep the funding coming. The research exploded and spread to other academic departments solely for the funding.
  • Thousands of papers have been published including climate change for the funding, creating a “climate change consensus.” Except there is not “settled science in any science.

As for the article being a “PR/publicity stunt,” you really need to learn to read with improved comprehension. The article was anything but a stunt and cited people, data and sources. And the geophysicists you attempt to disparage as working for the oil and gas industry, are academics.

As for the oil and gas industry, let me inform you that your Subaru, Volvo or Prius, snowboard, skis, hiking boots and Birkenstocks are all made from petroleum products, as are your recycling bins, trash cans, heart valves, and plastic frame sunglasses.

You say “People and other animals and our ecosystems around the world are dying every day because climate change deniers.”

  • There are a greater number of Polar Bears than ever.
  • The Great Barrier Reef reached record levels recently.

And finally, you claim “You, too, conflated your paper’s political/economic views with the science of the climate emergency. You made a deadly decision, and you should retract it.”

  • Nope. The “science of the climate emergency” is your first mistake. There is no climate emergency or climate chaos. The past 10,000 years we’ve been in a slightly less cold glacial period, according to these actual climate scientists, who read the data. They tell us in Central Park in New York City, there has been no overall change in temperature since 1940.

The science has been manipulated to benefit students, grad students, academics and government agencies now doing “climate research.”

“Consensus” on climate change has become a form of bullying, intimidation and censorship – which is exactly what Julie from Canada tried to do here. It has been used to bludgeon and attack the character of anyone who questions the very shallow claims. It is a cult completely divorced from science and reality. And the larger problem with these climate change cultists is they lack humility, and any interest in self-reflection.

I rest my case.

  1. Dear Katy,
I loved your original article on the letter signed by the 1600 climate scientists to the CARB. It was based on verifiable facts and clearly well researched.
Your response to Julie from Canada was surgical wordsmith!!
Well done and continue your impressive reporting!!

  2. Katy Grimes: “As for the oil and gas industry, let me inform you that your Subaru, Volvo or Prius, snowboard, skis, hiking boots and Birkenstocks are all made from petroleum products, as are your recycling bins, trash cans, heart valves, and plastic frame sunglasses.”
REPENT, “Julie Johnston,” climate change sinner! For the day of climate change judgment is at hand!

  3. Julie from Canada didn’t like you crowding the climate crisis plate, so she threw you a brushback pitch. That you hit out of the park!

  4. BravođŸ‘đŸ» Katy Grimes!
You wrote a master class response on what facts vs emotion should look like.
It is always so easy for the cultist to attack the person instead of the facts. You gave her historical evidence of weather events, increased population numbers of the “endangered” polar bear and so on.
I think “Greenhearted’ Julie is melting under an ice cap somewhere in Canada.
Julie, there is hope for you. That green heart of your may beat red in the future.
Katy, thank you for the hard work you put into your craft.

  5. Katy, it’s very easy to laugh at your Canadian detractor who is more a religious cultist than a “journalist” (confusing they’re for their) in her letter to you. But her diatribe is not only pathetic, it is also dangerous. Real climate science has only had verifiable worldwide climate data for the past 150 years. The earth is 4.54 billion years old, give or take a few million. Assessments of climate on earth prior to verifiable data are educated speculation at best. We review fossil records and extrapolate ancient climate estimates based on the flora and fauna during certain periods of time.

Not a week goes by when our local newspaper fails to publish a letter to the editor with a writer claiming that climate change “is our greatest existential threat.” What bullcrap! I could write a thousand page document outlining real threats and would probably still miss a few. The climate scam (as you correctly point out) is about the acquisition of power and wealth. Period.

  6. Anyone else see a veiled threat in Julie’s “you made a deadly decision…” closing statement??? How did anything that was published conflate to a “deadly decision”???

Thank you for publishing the screed in its entirety, Katy so the evidence is out there for public awareness…you explained (y)our position succinctly and elegantly, but the emotion-addled “Greenhearted” cabal doesn’t respond to logic or rational thinking, only their feelings, which are borderline religious….

  7. Great push back, more like a shove back!
Julie needs some anger management counseling and needs her “journalism degree” rescinded.

  8. Perhaps “Julie” can share her energy planet saving tips that she employs living in Canada with the long, cold winters? How do you survive without heating your home? Do you grow your own food to avoid consuming food produced and trucked with diesel powered equipment? Do you make all your own clothing out of native materials that you gather locally? Do you totally forego all industrial consumer goods that are produced in factories that consume vast amounts of energy? You do know that all the stuff in your home was probably shipped thousands of miles across the ocean?

For people like me who want to save the planet we need sage advice from people who have superior knowledge. Please share your lifestyle with the ignorant people who lack your wisdom.

    1. CW, H.L. Mencken had people like “Canada Julie” figured out almost 100 years ago:

“The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it
”

  9. What is “Julie” worried about? She’s lives in Canada where the WEF globalist’s stooge Justin Trudeau (aka Justin Castrudeau) is carrying out their climate change agenda scam to the upmost and destroying the country in the process.

A recent secret RCMP report warned that Canada may descend into civil unrest once citizens realize the hopelessness of their economic situation. (https://tnc.news/2024/03/21/rcmp-report-paranoid-populism/)

  10. I wonder whether and how Julie reflects her stated belief in a “climate emergency” in her life style?

  11. If Julie isn’t happy with the state of the climate, progressive Canada does have euthanasia.
    Go for it, Julie.

  12. Ah yes, of course the climate cultist had to come from Canadistan. Makes total sense now. This is what decades of government sponsored climate hysteria propaganda along with orchestrated suppression of countervailing evidence up in America’s hat has resulted in. Never mind that the recent wildfires in Canada were caused by a mixture of arson and lightning strikes exasperated by the same situation of decades worth of forest management neglect as contributed to the wildfires here in California. Sadly, you can’t reason with these people as they are caught up in an anti-human religion that perpetuates a hatred of human flourishing (which really is a side effect of their own self-loathing).

  13. Gavin Newsom, one of the WEF globalist’s climate change stooges, has turned to climate change to explain how the state went from a $100 billion surplus two years ago to a $28 billion deficit. He will be traveling to Rome next week to deliver a speech at the Vatican on climate change even though international jet travel is considered a significant contributor to carbon emissions. No doubt Canada’s Trudeau, another WEF globalist climate change stooge, will be jetting there as well?

  14. Katie, great work! However I do have one factor which I believe is leading to climate anxiety. There are too many people in the world. I grew up in the 50’s and 60’s and we had some pretty outrageous climate events at that time. During the early 70’s we reached 4 billion people on the plant. We had no climate issues that some more technology advancement couldn’t solve without sacrificing our standard of living. Today is different. Last summer we reached 8 billion people on the planet and are beginning to see the upper limits of water and power consumption. It seems like every day new regulations are being introduced to reduce consumption of everything, reducing our standard of living. There are just too many people on the planet. Just look at some of the images on the nightly news and you’ll see children everywhere, especially in the Middle East and Africa, many of them under nourished.

    1. The shortages of power and water and other essentials are Engineered by the left to create the illusion of too many people. Don’t fall for the lies!

  15. Katy Grimes did a Great Job on this~!~! Where is my earlier very positive comment regarding Katy Grimes doing a Wonderful Job on this issue~?

  16. Well said Katy! Unfortunately “CLIMATE CULTISTS” don’t think or understand data, logic and reason, just emotional outbursts for what they want. Just as children do, like Julie from Canada. I do take exception with your last premise that cultist are “completely divorced from science and reality”. They know the reality of using alarmism to get what they want. That’s how Communists like the WEF, UN, Canada’s PM and American government assholes gain power and control is thru fear. Create enough fear and weak idiots will run into the prison blindly thinking it’s “SAFE”
