Control vs. Science: California Govt. Medical Tyrants Agitating for Mask Mandates

It appears some politicians and members of the media are trying to foist another Covid winter on America, the Globe reported November 28th. “In California the pandemic never really ended. California Gov. Gavin Newsom still clings to his autocratic emergency powers under his March 4, 2020 Covid State of Emergency order, so why not perpetrate another crisis?”

Since then, daily news articles from California media are clearly pushing for mask mandates on school kids.

In Los Angeles County, LA County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer announced that because weekly Covid cases went up again, “This is the time to put that mask back on,” the Globe reported. Ferrer and the media are again counting “cases” rather than people ill enough to be in the ICU or dead from Covid.

Counting “cases” doesn’t really mean anything.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports Friday, “Bay Area health officials are encouraging them to put face coverings back on as the region gets hit with a triple threat of respiratory viruses — COVID-19, flu and RSV.”

The common thread is they are ignoring the importance of herd immunity – i.e. most people have already had Covid. They are also ignoring important studies showing that mask wearing did not prevent the spread of Covid. Mandating mask made little difference.

The Globe did an interview January 2022 with Dr. Peter McCullough, an internist, cardiologist and epidemiologist, and one of America’s leading physicians on the early treatment of COVID-19, in which he explained:

“There have been over one dozen studies of general masking which have shown it is basically not effective. I think the only people that need masks… I am a cardiologist and I wear a mask with patients.”

“Dentists, dental hygienists – and we wear them in the operating room. It’s not to prevent the spread of COVID, but it stops sneezes or coughs,” Dr. McCullough added. “But in general masks don’t work.”

He noted that epidemiologic curves show even with masks worn for two years, we have more COVID now than we had before.

“It’s obvious masks have failed. It’s a hopeless endeavor. Masks can be worn for other reasons, but people shouldn’t wear a mask to protect them from COVID. People have gotten COVID wearing masks,” he added.

A 2021 study at the University of Louisville by lead author Damian D. Guerra, an assistant professor of biology, and co-author Daniel J. Guerra, of VerEvMed, found state mask mandates not only did not help slow COVID-19 transmission, it also found “qualitatively comparable courses of viral spread” among states with early, late, and no mask mandates, Reason.com reported.

So states like California which locked down first in the country and extended out mask mandates and school and business lockdowns beyond all other states made little or no difference – other than to destroy two years of kids’ education and kill off 50% of the state’s small businesses.

Specifically, the study said, “Randomized control trials have not clearly demonstrated mask efficacy against respiratory viruses, and observational studies conflict on whether mask use predicts lower infection rates. Mask mandates and use are not associated with slower state-level COVID-19 spread during COVID-19 growth surges.”

Researchers at Johns Hopkins University also concluded that lockdowns did little to reduce COVID deaths but have had “devastating effects” on economies and numerous social ills, Health News Florida reported.

The study, titled “A Literature Review and Meta-Analysis of the Effects of Lockdowns on COVID-19 Mortality,” said lockdowns in Europe and the U.S. reduced COVID-19 deaths by 0.2 percent.

Shelter-in-place orders were also ineffective, reducing COVID-19 mortality by 2.9%, the study said.

“We find no evidence that lockdowns, school closures, border closures, and limiting gatherings have had a noticeable effect on COVID-19 mortality,” the researchers wrote in the report, issued Monday.

The study concluded that lockdowns “are ill-founded and should be rejected as a pandemic policy instrument.”

“They have contributed to reducing economic activity, raising unemployment, reducing schooling, causing political unrest, contributing to domestic violence, and undermining liberal democracy,” the report said.

The internal BS meter for many during the Covid lockdowns was off the charts. It’s starting to feel that way again.

Remember, in July Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer tried to convince everyone that Los Angeles County reached the “High” level of new COVID-19 cases and County hospitalization rates, giving the County two weeks to fall back below or else mandatory indoor masking mandates return, as the Globe reported.

Think about that – Ferrer tried to begin mask mandates and lockdowns again, in July.
