For many Californians, Thanksgiving 2021 will be yet another holiday praying that Governor Gavin Newsom’s everlasting emergency orders come to end. While many other governors have worked to balance individual freedoms against political and health concerns, our governor continues to use Covid 19 to grab more control for himself and his political party. Sadly, the one-party control over the State of California and its people has created lots of sheep who dutifully follow the shepherd.
But exactly how much should we worry? If the state’s Covid State of Emergency orders continue, there is much to be concerned about. Despite leading the nation in vaccine jabs with a whopping 148.2 doses administered per 100 people, Californians have yet to see the full range of their rights returned. Mask mandates and vaccine requirements are still in place. And Newsom is proudly determined to lead California to its second year under a State of Emergency.
His emergency tactics have created the political space for him to label the teaching of mathematics as racist and place our children in masks for what seems like perpetuity. And the robots in his party continue to follow him down the destructive path he is creating.
Newsom’s latest requirement now forces all students ages 5-11 to receive vaccinations in order to attend in-person school, despite data showing transmission from children to be an exceptionally low risk. Gavin Newsom is literally denying science in order to garner more political power. He is taking our freedoms away in the name of health safety when the risk he talks about isn’t based in science or facts.
The state’s data should be an indication of progress and a coming leniency from COVID-19 mandates, but Newsom’s administration has yet to identify any metrics for lifting the mandates. Clearly science is not the only factor driving Gavin’s policy.
At Newsom’s direction, our school boards have also gone so far as to extend their jurisdiction to outdoor activities while we gather to celebrate the coming holidays. I witnessed one such mind-boggling scene last week. In my own community of Manhattan Beach, masked students from the local government school stood on the boardwalk and sang a muffled chorus to a packed audience of confused unmasked adults. Kids in masks while adults are unmasked has become the norm.
The truth is that Newsom’s administration and his political supporters wield nothing more than hypocrisy and incompetence. The policies they support ignore the most pressing issues while seeing fit to create red herrings.
It’s no wonder that Newsom has decided to escape his own draconian mandates in favor of Mexico for a week-long Thanksgiving vacation. And yet this is not the first time Newsom has blatantly disregarded his own rules. He issues Emergency Orders for the people but vacations in Mexico like life is back to normal. If kids in Manhattan Beach must be masked outside while singing Christmas carols, the author of that policy should not be on vacation in a foreign country.
So where is the outrage from Sacramento? There is none. The members of Gavin’s political party and the media that cover them are afraid of Gavin.
Distanced learning, stifled social interaction, anxiety, depression and the undermining of our American values are very real threats to our children’s future, and our School Boards need to either take action or be overtaken by parents who, to use a catchphrase ironically popularized by Democrats, will “follow the science.”
Californians should reflect on whether our elected officials have made our communities better, safer, and more prosperous under the multi-year State of Emergency. The answer should be apparent. One-party control over our state has allowed Emergency orders to become a way of life in California – and this should outrage every single person living here.
