Los Angeles Palisades Fire Rebuilds: 13 Total

6,571 homes were destroyed by the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles County

By Katy Grimes, March 2, 2026 2:25 pm

As of February 23, 2026, of the 6,571 homes destroyed by the Palisades Fire in unincorporated Los Angeles County, a total of 13 homes have been rebuilt, according to the official LA Recovers website. One home has been built in Pacific Palisades according to Los Angeles “LA Recovers.”

Is that a joke – LA Recovers?

Notably, the federal government handled the cleanup – FEMA, the EPA and Army Corps of Engineers.

In July, Governor Gavin Newsom and the First Partner made a huge pretense of “recognizing” the six month anniversary of the devastating fires, “as well as the progress made and steps being taken to rebuild and restore the communities affected,” a press release by the governor’s office said.

But nothing had been accomplished except the federal government’s clean up. It was all talk and all dog-and-pony-show for Newsom, completed with people in uniform as props. As usual.

However, across the state, cities are being forced to build “affordable housing” they don’t want by the Newsom Administration, resulting in construction projects everywhere… except Pacific Palisades. I’m waiting for that order.

They can make housing projects work for “affordable” housing rent seekers, but not for single family homes who own the property.

It has now been over a year since fires ravaged homes in the Palisades and nearby areas of Los Angeles County, and over one year since the Globe was in Pacific Palisades and photographed the devastation:

The Los Angeles County Permitting Progress Dashboard is an embarrassment, or it should be, and is reminiscent of the COVID dashboards Gov. Newsom’s administration and counties maintained.

As of March 2, 2026, of the 6,571 homes destroyed by the Palisades Fire in Los Angeles County, a total of 13 homes have been rebuilt. One – 1 – home has been rebuilt in Pacific Palisades, and 12 have been rebuilt in the Eaton area.

Here is the rebuilding progress dashboard in Pacific Palisades where 1 – ONE – construction project has been completed:

And here is the dashboard for Eaton where 12 construction rebuilds have been completed:

There’s not a lot to say about this except this is criminal behavior by state and local government, preventing property owner from rebuilding.

Malibu is worse – they’ve approved 171 plans, 46 are in building plan check, 33 permits have been issued and ZERO homes have been rebuilt:

But WOW! “Mayor Bass has taken a number of executive actions to clear the way for Los Angeles residents and business owners to return and rebuild as quickly and safely as possible.”

Mayor Karen Bass has been busy issuing 13 executive orders, but they don’t actually translate into rebuilt homes.

  1. That’s because “Largemouth” Bass is a typical Democrat BUREAUCRAT, who is real good at announcing “panels” and “studies” but not so good at actual ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND ACTION, to help the people she purports to “help”…
And the re-zoning is abhorrent and should be CRIMINAL…haven’t these residents suffered enough at the hands of these inept and corrupt Democrats???

Pro tip : STOP voting for Democrats in California!!! They have, and will continue to, screw up your lives and livelihoods!!!

  2. Absolutely appalling and unacceptable —- but not at all surprising —– to those of us who have been following the coverage of this, whether here at CA Globe elsewhere, or who actually know people who lost their homes. Altadena, under the auspices of L.A. County and the ONE sane person who remains on the Board of Supervisors, Kathryn Barger, gives them A BIT of an advantage and keeps them A BIT ahead of the red tape and mess. A dear friend of mine in Altadena who lost her home spent 2025 battling the insurance crap, the County bureaucracy, and the rest of it, but because of having decent insurance coverage and being a very strong, smart, knowledgeable and determined person (at 80 years old), she is miles ahead of others she knows in the area and her rebuild plans have slowly but surely progressed. She broke ground on her rebuild February 1 of this year.
What’s happening in the Palisades and Malibu is a crying shame. Every “leader” involved should be shunned for life if not prosecuted for this state of affairs. And that includes the Worst Insurance Commissioner Ever, Ricardo Lara, the Worst L.A. City Mayor Ever, Karen Bass, the Worst L.A. City Council Ever (and I’m not kidding), and one of the Worst County Supervisors Ever, who represents the Palisades, Lindsey Horvath. Please remember the names of these people and never reward them with office again when they reappear on a ballot, okay?
It’s an absolute, jaw-dropping outrage what little progress has been made in the Palisades and Malibu. Because the Palisades is under L.A. City, insult is always added to injury, and you can count on it. Example: Recently, fire victims whose empty, fire-ravaged lots are bare of foliage apparently received brush clearance bills and fines from the City of L.A., if you can believe it. What more needs to be said to paint the picture? Nothing. A city that would do that is capable of anything. That, of course (and many more face-slappings) is only one part of the bigger, badder outrages and messes and kicks in the teeth that are happening there — and what is NOT happening there —- as Katy Grimes has reported. Seems to me the whole thing is such a cluster$%#@ no one even wants to talk about it anymore. Another win for the “leadership,” seems like! Ignore it and it will go away. Blame Commie Karen Bass and that Wretchedly Phony Gavin Newsom most of all. As usual. As you know.

    1. Fantastic overview…
Elaine Culotti has done a series of very inspiring videos with Adam Carolla over the last year. chronicling the red tape and inefficiency of LA City in every aspect of the rebuilding phase and what she would do differently.
I recall thinking “I wish she would run for Governor” about a year ago, and my wish came true late last month!!!
