Pelosi Won’t let DACA Build the Wall

Say’s they are “two Different Subjects”

Amid Congressional talks on Capitol Hill today regarding the building of President Trump’s border wall and the installation of DACA, it appears we could be witnessing what type of bipartisanship lies ahead for the next two years. This prediction comes as Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco) – the next expected Speaker of the House, doesn’t appear to be budging on any sort of border agreement.

Working to secure border wall funding, a long overdue promise to his voters, President Trump has said he would be willing to grant amnesty to some 700,000 undocumented immigrants already within United States who would be eligible to stay under the DACA program.

However, despite any potential agreements, Pelosi told reports that the border wall and DACA are “two different subjects.”

Better known as the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, DACA would save some immigrants from deportation if they were brought to the U.S. illegally as children. But the disagreement over the two complex subjects, which lay at the heart of the current budget gridlock, doesn’t seem as if it will be resolved anytime soon.

According to Fox News, Pelosi spoke to reporters shortly before the House approved a short-term spending bill to avoid a partial government shutdown. Known as a “CR” or “Continuing Resolution,” the measure re-ups all money for the seven remaining spending bills at current levels through Dec. 21. The measure now goes to the Senate for approval.

Pelosi’s statements today follow a similar tone she took one Saturday when she said “our House Democratic Majority will once again pass the Dream Act to end the uncertainty and fear inflicted on patriotic young men and women across the country.” Before adding, “of course, we will meet our responsibility to provide strong, smart border security that serves our country’s needs, is consistent with our values, and doesn’t squander billions of dollars on a border wall.”

  1. Its called a compromise, Pelosi. You get something you want and Trump gets something he wants. As Pelosi added $12 billion in foreign aid to the CR, which State Dept. didn’t request, $5 billion could be reprogrammed to the construction of the barriers and the other $7 billion canceled. Then, announce that funding for the wall was found and $7 billion saved.
