Soros Dumps Another $2.5 Million into George Gascón’s Race for Los Angeles DA

‘Gascón is running on a promise of turning our court system upside down’

By Katy Grimes, September 28, 2020 11:23 am

 In 2018, billionaire oligarch George Soros funded the campaigns of leftist District Attorney challengers across the United States. In California alone, Soros spent $3,625,000 on DA races in Sacramento, San Diego, Alameda, Marin and Contra Costa counties.

Flash forward to 2020: Soros has already funded more than $2.5 million of George Gascón’s race for Los Angeles District Attorney. “The infusion of dark money in these races, usually in the final months before a primary or general election, makes a huge impact,” Michele Hanisee, President of the Association of Los Angeles Deputy District Attorneys, recently wrote. “District attorney elections are typically minimally funded, local races.  The last-minute spending by these PACs leaves opposing candidates with scant time to raise a corresponding amount of cash to respond.”

As Los Angeles District Attorney since 2012, Jackie Lacey is being challenged by George Gascón, who left the San Francisco District Attorney’s office to move to Los Angeles and run against Lacey.

The heart of the matter in this race is the heated debate over “police killings” and calls for DAs to prosecute more cops. Gascón calls himself a “criminal justice reformer,” and promises he will prosecute fewer people as DA.

The “reformer” campaigns portray police as agents of a racist law enforcement system that imprisons more blacks and minorities, and targets blacks and minorities for police harassment and abuse.

Black Lives Matter is supporting Gascón, “over the first Black district attorney in the nation’s most populous county, for failing to prosecute police officers who kill civilians,” NBC News reported. “We’ve tried everything with her,” said Melina Abdullah, co-founder of Black Lives Matter-L.A. “We had a deep desire to have things be different.”

As California Globe recently reported, “Gascón is the architect of Proposition 47 which largely decriminalized theft and drug crimes by reducing those crimes and a number of other “non-violent” felonies to misdemeanors; and Prop. 57, which allows early release for “non-violent offenders,” including rape by intoxication of an unconscious person, human trafficking involving a sex act with minors, arson causing great bodily harm, drive-by shooting, assault with a deadly weapon, and hostage taking. These are so-called criminal justice reforms according to Gascón.”

“Gascón is endorsed by Bernie Sanders and Black Lives Matter, and his campaign has already benefited from more than $1 million spent by George Soros to defeat Lacey,” Edward Ring reported at American Greatness recently, before the most recent contributions. “To say Gascón would not support the ability of law enforcement to restore order to the streets of Los Angeles is an understatement.”

Gascón is also endorsed by Gov. Gavin Newsom who appointed Gascón San Francisco District Attorney, even with no prosecutorial experience. Vice Presidential candidate Kamala Harris also endorsed Gascón.

But a deeper dive into Gascón, his funders and supporters presents a disturbing picture for the man who wants to be the District Attorney of the largest DA’s office in the country.

“Cuban-born George Gascón, 65, was a career police officer before becoming a prosecutor. He joined the LAPD in 1978 after a stint in the Army and, outside of a five-year hiatus as a car salesman, he spent more than 20 years on the force, rising to assistant chief,” LAist reported.

“In 2006 he became police chief of Mesa, Arizona, and in 2009 chief of the San Francisco Police Department. In 2011, then-Mayor Gavin Newsom appointed him San Francisco’s district attorney. Gascón was elected to the post later that year and was re-elected in 2015. He stepped down last fall to run for DA in Los Angeles.”

“Gascón calls himself the true reformer in the race and argues that, under Lacey, the DA’s office ‘has lost its ability to distinguish the dangerous from the nuisance.’ He promises to lock up fewer people than the incumbent.”

‘Criminal Justice Reforms’

Of the “criminal justice reforms” supported by left-leaning DAs, ending cash bail in California is a priority. In August 2018, then-Gov. Jerry Brown signed Senate Bill 10 into law, ostensibly to reform the cash bail system. However, Before SB 10 could have gone into effect, Californians Against the Reckless Bail Scheme fought the legislation on two points: it would result in the release of violent offenders to the streets, and would kill a $2-billion national industry, as well as the 3,200 bail agents in California.

Gascón has long advocated for the end of monetary bail.

“In 2018, then-San Francisco District Attorney George Gascón asked the California Supreme Court to review a landmark lower-court ruling prohibiting authorities from holding criminal defendants in jail solely because they can’t afford to pay bail to get out.”

“However, Gascón’s record has come under fire from LA County police unions — particularly the Los Angeles Police Protective League, which represents 10,000 cops — who say his policies have led to increases in some forms of crime,” Courthouse News recently reported.

Proposition 25, the “Replace Cash Bail with Risk Assessments Referendum,”  is supported by:

  • Service Employees International Union
  • California Democratic Party
  • California Medical Association
  • Gov. Gavin Newsom and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon

Opponents include:

  • California State Conference of the NAACP
  • California Peace Officers’ Association
  • California Bail Agents Association
  • Human Rights Watch

When Gascón departed San Francisco for Los Angeles, Chesa Boudin was elected in a special election to replace Gascón as San Francisco District Attorney. Boudin announced a policy in January that will end cash bail for those being released from custody, KUSI reported. “The DA’s office says those being held ahead of their trial will now be based on the risk rather than wealth and poverty. This means people who may be a threat to the community will remain in custody, regardless of how much money they have.”

Chesa Boudin is the radical leftist activist lawyer raised in Chicago by Weather Underground leaders Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn.  Boudin was also Hugo Chavez’s trusted propagandist, translator and advisor.

“While Mr. Boudin did not receive money directly from one of Mr. Soros‘ multiple state PACs, a network of left-wing donors connected to the Hungarian-born billionaire helped Mr. Boudin raise more than $620,000,” the Washington Times reported. “The donor web included Chloe Cockburn, who is with Mr. Soros‘ Democracy Alliance, along with the Tides Foundation and Brennan Center for Justice, both of which have Mr. Soros as a deep-pocketed contributor.”

Gascón as San Francisco District Attorney

Under Gascón as San Francisco District Attorney:

  • property crimes increased nearly 50%;
  • auto thefts in San Francisco jumped to 10% of the statewide average;
  • San Francisco had the highest property crime in the state;
  • violent crime was 54% higher than the rest of the state and 82% higher than the national average;
  • drug addiction soared.

Soros’ Influence and Cash

An article in 2018 in the Los Angeles Times titled, “Here’s why George Soros, liberal groups are spending big to help decide who’s your next D.A.,” explained Soros’ funding of liberal DAs:

“New York billionaire George Soros headlines a consortium of private funders, the American Civil Liberties Union and other social justice groups and Democratic activists targeting four of the 56 district attorney positions up for election on June 5. Five other California candidates are receiving lesser support.

The cash infusion in the nonpartisan elections turns underdog challengers into contenders for one of the most powerful positions in local justice systems, roiling conventional law-and-order politics.”

“These people who want to create their own social policy are not worthy of the office,” former Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Steve Cooley warned. “If they win in San Diego or Sacramento, L.A. is next.”

Cooley was right. While San Diego and Sacramento District Attorneys Summer Stephan and Anne Marie Schubert won their re-elections, Gascón is running to be LA District Attorney.

During the 2018 election, DAs Stephan and Schubert created websites associating Soros with Antifa groups and anti-law enforcement groups.

With Soros’ latest $2.5 million deposit in the Gascón campaign, “the race for Los Angeles District Attorney is going to be a hard-fought campaign with two very different perspectives,” ADA Michele Hanisee wrote. “Jackie Lacey, endorsed by the Association of Los Angeles Deputy District Attorneys, is an experienced, career prosecutor with a record of reforming the justice system while keeping crime at historically low rates. She has kept politics out of the DA’s office and respected the rule of law. Gascón, on the other hand, is running on a promise of ‘turning our court system upside down.’ Not only is this reckless, it is antidemocratic. We are confident that the voters of Los Angeles County will elect the district attorney they deserve, not the one special interest can buy.”

  1. Soros is an enemy of this country and an enemy of western civilization. He hopes to profit from the social and economic collapse of this country. He was a Nazi collaborator in WW2 and he is continuing that war to this very day.

    Where is the government? Why are they not protecting us from this domestic terrorist?

      1. Defunding hardcore gang units as the new DA intends, in the midst of a border crisis, where there are children of a certain prime age for gang grooming, is a nightmare. Soros is playing puppet master with the world and hedging his investments as a global double agent of chaos. He believes his own nonsense because no one tells him no…his inherent and obvious bucketing of people to fit his distorted world view is a disassociative disconnect with humanity. He is playing God and truly believes he’s right and knows better than us all. He is creating a ruling ultra-elite he will lead; a governing sub-elite, who fight amongst themselves, for the limited power they are charted–they will also govern the global police-state; the rest of us will be a conglomeration of proletariat natives, made up of objectified people who do the dirty work and produce to enrich the top-of-the-house. Dissent will not happen b/c by time chaos and turmoil reach cataclysm, we’ll reach for anything to survive, under the guise of being saved and indebted to Father and his transhumanistic, dystopia. The trauma and desperation will steal our individual and multicultural identities. He’s old, is going to die soon, I hope God corrects him to unwind his entire agenda…otherwise, his kids will follow through.

  2. Grateful as always to Katy Grimes, the rare reporter who understands the importance of covering this race — what it will mean for the future of L.A. County, for California, and likely beyond.
    If you live in L.A. County you must vote for Jackie Lacey to be re-elected to L.A. County District Attorney.
    Vote for Jackie Lacey as if your life depends on it because it very well could.
    Vote for Jackie Lacey because you don’t want L.A. County, the most populous county in the U.S., to become like San Francisco on steroids.

  3. Has anybody located a nationwide list of Soros backed DAs? I have located one in Louisiana. The Caddo Parish, Shreveport, DA James Stewart is a Soros man. The public needs this information.

  5. George Gascon is up for recall. 1) LA Times reports shootings are down in 2022. 2)Mental Health Social Programs are being deployed and Employment is being addressed to reduce Californian’s high prison population. A good job seems to cure almost anything.
    There is no difference between the human behavior in Minority Vs Other neighborhoods. Other communities really have more unchecked Criminal behavior. Minorities have over policed criminal behavior. One significant reason prison is crowded with Minorities are over policed. Ask any police officer. Humans are humans. What we criminalize and police creates the prison population..
    What’s the name of the gangs armed and dangerous in middle class other non-minority neighborhoods? What un policed crimes do they commit? Again, ask the FBI and police. They know! These people are heavily armed. Wealthy families even have mini army’s protecting them, and these military guards are prepared to shoot to kill. This demographic of people have/are embezzling billions through business, and continue with offshore tax haven accounts. They have planes and yachts to transport anything unchecked. Yes, they pay taxes if the IRS goes after them, but they aggressively seek tax deductions and tax avoidance. A homeless guy with a pocket of heroin Vs a guy in a yacht with a lot of heroine for his party is not comparable. One is simply over policed. It’s two sets of rules people. A police state is their answer for minorities. Just protect our property. Protect our material property and kill anyone trying to take it. It’s like stealing from Columbus. The guy plotted to steal land from indigenous tribes. Nothing honorable in that action.
    Everyone knows employed people don’t want to steal petty property, or break into your car for a laptop, but rich people still want poor people’s neighborhoods, where land is cheaper to build big stadiums like Sofi. Put yourself in the other persons shoes, and the problems will solve themselves.
    What’s the answer? It’s definitely avoiding anything that occurred in the past. No DA is going to start policing other middle and upper income neighborhoods and prosecuting rich people for embezzlement and property crimes. They fund all the political campaigns. What can work is helping people have better quality lives and realizing you can only ski behind one yacht or live in one house at a time.

    Consider Soros’ own words about his opinion of himself: “It is a sort of DISEASE when you consider yourself some kind of God, the creator of everything, but I feel comfortable about it now since I began to live it out.”—GEORGE SOROS. A man who thinks he is God cannot abide having anyone be answerable to a god other than Soros himself.
