The Greenberg Brief: Canceling George Soros

Why we need a Soros-free City movement, now

By Richie Greenberg, December 5, 2023 2:45 am

San Francisco’s activists have uncovered the financial alliances between city hall officials and not-so-dark money behind their support. From rogue District Attorneys to California’s horrendous Proposition 47, the Israel-Hamas war’s antisemitic protesters and beyond, much of the money can be traced back to none other than George Soros.

Mind you, the slightest alluding to criticism of Mr. Soros publicly can and has indeed led to accusations of antisemitism, as Soros is Jewish. I say, it is two separate issues; apples and oranges. Soros, in his infinite ability to dole out huge sums of cash influencing politics, is extremely well deserving of criticism, scorn, pushback and public outrage. His transgressions are numerous and with more widespread implications. His religious affiliation has little to do with his decisions about where and to whom he throws his money. Accusing critics of Soros as antisemitic is gas-lighting and I roundly dismiss those accusers.

Soros’ network of politically-motivated, earmarked money is held in, among many places, the Open Society Policy Center. It’s a huge grant-making 501(c)(4) vehicle connected with efforts to influence voters in left-wing candidate races and ballot measures across the country.

Soros’ Open Society offices were asked just days ago if they classify Hamas a terrorist organization. They refused to answer.

In 2014, California’s Prop. 47, the notorious state voter measure which upended criminal prosecution by lowering felonies to misdemeanors with $950 threshold, was on the ballot. Soros’ Open Society pumped $1.46 million into the effort to pass the measure which as we all know, won. Clearly, our state has ultimately lost as a civil society; we are still dearly paying the price.

Along with the phenomenon of rogue DA’s (often referred to as Soros DAs), an investigation into one San Francisco private High School’s alumni group’s effort to demand the school administration support Palestine/Hamas- and condemn Israel. The malicious demand was uncovered to be connected to Soros. The alumni circulated a petition specifically naming an activist to address the student body, make changes to their curriculum, and impose Israeli boycotts. That activist is Ellen Brotsky, of the Catalyst Action Fund, an organization supported by the San Francisco-based Tides Advocacy, back partially by money from Soros’ Open Society. Separately, the New York Post tied Soros to supporting Anti-Israel protests last month. And as we know, Soros’ money also went to Real Justice PAC, financial contributor to elect George Gascon, Alvin Bragg and Pamela Price’s district attorney races.

In other words, if there’s an issue in our city which raises giant red flags, there’s a good chance Soros’ money is somehow involved. That’s why I have no qualms whatsoever to criticize the man.

Over the past years, candidates running for San Francisco elected office have been interviewed by endorsement organizations, clubs and political party leaders. Candidates are handed a questionnaire with queries related to not only specific issues at hand (to gauge alignment to their causes) but to also weed out undesirables ideologically. One great example is a question of, or more accurately termed a demand, the candidate pledge to never accept donations from law enforcement organizations like the San Francisco Police Officers’ Association (SFPOA) or the SF Deputy Sheriffs. Yes, the political clubs and organizations want to keep law and order candidates at bay and will deny endorsement and support to candidates which law enforcement agencies support.

Sen. Scott Wiener rejects donations from SF law enforcment.

It’s high time we good citizens now take a stand against the effects of George Soros in our city. We need a parallel, and answer, to the prohibition of pro-law enforcement candidates by instead demanding candidates publicly refuse Soros money: Publicly refuse donations directly to their campaign from Soros and refuse support by Soros’ aligned PACS such as Tides Center Advocacy, Real Justice PAC, the Sierra Club, Equis Advocacy and Open Society of course. Candidates must pledge to return funds if they are found to have been received from Soros. This is one major step forward in reducing the influence: Publicly expose Soros’ financial ties. Is beyond time we remove his radical money from power and influence.

Make our city a Soros-free City.

  1. I have also noted that the media in general is very circumspect about its references to Soros or his NGA’s. With a few exceptions, Soros’s activities are reported on with a “just the facts, ma’am” attitude with previous little interpretations that might ruffle his feathers. Obviously, the media is intimidated. But by whom?

  2. Was Soros ever a religious Jew? Not likely considering how he’s lived his life? When the Nazis occupied Budapest in 1944, George Soros’s father was a successful lawyer. Soros’ father had bribed a government official to supposedly accept the billionaire as his ‘Christian Godson’ when he was a teenager. While hundreds of thousands of Hungarian Jews were being shipped off to the death camps, George Soros accompanied his “godfather” on his appointed rounds, confiscating property from the Jews. Soros downplayed it by claiming he was a teen and that someone would have done things anyway even if he refused to participate. When asked if he had developed psychiatric issues on account of his involvement, he said that it created ‘no problem at all.’

  3. György Schwartz was born on 12 August 1930 in Budapest in the Kingdom of Hungary to a prosperous non-observant Jewish family, who, like many upper-middle class Hungarian Jews at the time, were uncomfortable with their roots. – Some with Jewish roots hate that part of themselves so they devote energy to their own destruction. Like Hitler and his proven Jewish roots by a DNA study. Unlike soros, hitler was not born to a prosperous family but he was born in a Austian/Hungarian district. I once worked with a Hungarian and made the mistake to asking her why the Jews were persecuted in eastern Europe and boy, did I get an ear full, she did not make a whole lot of since to me, born with Irish roots, but it was an ear full.
