Gov. Newsom’s Mistaken Press Statement about Florida Supreme Court Decision on Heartbeat Law – We Corrected it For Him

Polling shows the heartbeat law is right in line with the views of Florida residents

Last week the Globe reported “Governor Newsom Calls Supreme Court Hearing on Abortion Pill ‘Backdoor Abortion Ban.'” We pointed out where he was incorrect, and questioned why California taxpayers are paying for Newsom’s abortion travel business into California:

California is the Abortion Sanctuary State as of 2022 – another “California first” the people did not vote on. Gov. Newsom officially created a state agency website to assist out-of-staters with their abortion travel plans. Gov. Newsom invites “people seeking abortion care, or information about reproductive health care in California,” to visit Abortion.CA.Gov.

Monday, Gov. Newsom decided to weigh in on the Florida Supreme Court decision on the state’s “Heartbeat Law” in a press statement. However, that press statement is riddled with inaccuracies, rhetoric, and half-truths.

So we thought we’d clean it up a bit for accuracy, readability, and veracity.

Here is Gov. Newsom’s actual press statement on the Florida Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the state’s 15-week abortion ban:

Governor Newsom Statement on Florida Supreme Court Decision Allowing Gov. DeSantis’ 6-Week Abortion Ban to Take Effect

Women in need of abortions can visit Abortion.CA.Gov to learn about traveling to California to receive care.

As attacks on reproductive freedom continue, including just last week at the U.S. Supreme Court, Governor Gavin Newsom today issued the following statement in response to the Florida Supreme Court’s ruling allowing Governor DeSantis’ 6-week abortion ban to go into effect – severely restricting reproductive freedom and cutting off access to care before many women even know they are pregnant:

“Floridians have fewer rights and less control over their own bodies today than they did yesterday – thanks to Governor DeSantis.

“For the past six years, Governor DeSantis has put up a freedom façade so he could systematically cut down people’s rights based on his own personal political agenda.

“Today, yet another right was stripped away from Floridians through Governor DeSantis’ anti-rights agenda – millions of Floridians and women in neighboring states with total bans will now no longer be able to access essential reproductive health care on their own terms.“If you are no longer able to get abortion care in your home state, California has the resources and support available to help you exercise your reproductive freedom.”

Governor Gavin Newsom

WHY THIS MATTERS: Even before Roe v. Wade was overturned by the Supreme Court, Florida had been a key abortion access state in the Southeast for millions, including people in Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi.

The Florida Supreme Court also ruled that Floridians can vote this November on a measure to enshrine the right to obtain an abortion in their state constitution. Since the U.S. Supreme Court reversed Roe, millions of Americans – in every state that has put the issue on the ballot – have reaffirmed their right to abortion, including in California.

Women – regardless of whether they live in California – in need of reproductive health care, including abortion care, can go to Abortion.CA.Gov to learn about the rights they have in California, support and resources available to them, and how California continues to protect this fundamental freedom from ongoing hostile and extreme attacks.

Here is the Globe’s corrected version:

Governor Newsom Statement on Florida Supreme Court Decision Upholding Gov. DeSantis’ Heartbeat Law to Take Effect

Women in need of pregnancy care should visit their doctor or any crisis pregnancy center in the state to learn about pregnancy and birth, parenthood or adoption, or just to receive prenatal care.

As attacks on the unborn continue, including the case heard by the U.S. Supreme Court,  Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA about the abortion pill mifepristone just last week, Governor Gavin Newsom today issued the following statement in response to the Florida Supreme Court’s ruling allowing the state’s heartbeat law to take effect that protects unborn babies with beating hearts from abortions.

“Florida’s babies are now protected once a heartbeat is heard – thanks to Governor DeSantis.

On April 14, 2022, Governor DeSantis signed HB 5, the “Reducing Fetal and Infant Mortality Act,” to protect the lives of Florida’s most vulnerable by prohibiting all abortions after 15 weeks of gestation.

“Today, yet another right was upheld through Governor DeSantis’ pro-life agenda – millions of Floridians and unborn in neighboring states will be able to access essential reproductive health care on their own terms. “You are now able to get full pregnancy care in your home state. California also has the resources and support available to help women save babies from abortions who have beating hearts.”

Governor Gavin Newsom

WHY THIS MATTERS: Following Roe v. Wade being overturned by the Supreme Court, Gov. DeSantis made Florida the next state to officially protect the lives of unborn children.

The law will save tens of thousands of lives annually and provide $25 million in aid to women and families.

Florida’s highest court upheld both the 15 week and heartbeat laws, that expands pro-life protections and provides additional resources for young mothers and families. In a 6-1 ruling, the Florida Supreme Court upheld Florida’s law protecting preborn children from most abortions after 15 weeks. The decision paves the way for additional protections for preborn babies beginning at 6 weeks.

Polling shows the heartbeat law is right in line with the views of Florida residents.

Not only do a majority of Floridians support protecting babies from abortion, they support the heartbeat law by a strong 62% margin.

The bill will also provide $25 million in aid to women and families.

  1. When Newsom talks about the life of the unborn His values that he has inflicted upon the unborn of California comes through loud and clear and his values are disgusting and murderous. Just because his values are carried out in a “clinic” behind closed doors or are accomplished through a pill that stops pregnancy it still all ends up being the same result. The LIFE yes LIFE of an unborn baby is ended. Those are Newsoms values. What we can plainly see is that Newsom and his values only supports what tears down society and not what builds it up. Through the lenses of history, we can see that Newsom’s values are not original to him and that previous leaders that have expressed goals of tearing down society values have not lasted long, and they have made their mark on history in a negative way. Newsoms final asterisk in the history books will reflect his values.

    1. Great commentary Hal.
Yes Newsom is fixated with murder of the unborn.
He aligns with the dictators of the past, Lenin,Mao Zedong, Pol Pot, Fidel Castro and any communist leader that does not value all human life.
He values the lives of murderers over the innocent unborn.
The repercussions have changed our culture forever.
This is and never was about Women’s Health, it just masks the ending of an innocent life.

  2. Newsom and Democrats in political office are like a satanic blood cult who want babies aborted and their body parts used for nefarious purposes? For children who survive their abortion culling, they seem to want them loaded up with toxic “vaccine” shots and have disfiguring trans surgeries performed on them? No doubt Newsom and his Democrat cronies are no strangers to bingeing on Adrenochrome?

  3. Really appreciate that Katy Grimes “fixed” Gov Gavin Buttinsky’s absurd and horrifying press statement on the Florida Heartbeat Law. What the hell is this guy’s problem, anyway? And how many times a day now do we have to ask that question?
Once upon a time, TJ’s comment would have sounded over-the-top but now comes off as deadly accurate.
As writer Elizabeth Nickson likes to say about the attitude our very sick (Dem/Marxist) Ruling Class has toward the rest of us, “die faster, die faster!” So what we now see in CA is go-go abortion, assisted suicide, toxic “Covid” mRNA injections —- especially pressed on children who NEVER needed it in the first place —- “Covid” sufferers moved into nursing homes that killed residents, etc. The Death List is too long to repeat here.
What happened to the Dem/Marxist mantra “we want abortions to be safe, legal, and rare?” Guess in recent years they’ve dropped the “rare” from the mantra and apparently the “safe,” too. For sure Gavin Newsom is not encumbered by conscience AT ALL on the subject, and in fact these days is a downright CHEERLEADER for abortion, which is beyond monstrous.
I’d be willing to bet a lot that if it were possible to know the truth about how Californians really feel about limitless abortion —- which has been obscured by the rantings of a small percentage, including our own Gov and his friends as well as a so-called stamp of approval in the form of a wildly misleading ballot proposition whose results were probably tinkered with —- we would discover the numbers are the same as what we see in Florida.
