AB 518: Eligibility for Paid Family Leave Expanded

It would expand the term ‘family member’ to include ‘any other individual related by blood’

Assembly Bill 518 by Assemblywoman Buffy Wicks (D-Oakland) was introduced to expand eligibility for paid family leave. AB 518 would amend Unemployment Insurance Code Sections 3301, 3302, and 3303.

Section 1 of the bill would amend Unemployment Insurance Code Section 3301 to add to the list of individuals for whom workers can take time off work to care for, including “any other individual related by blood or whose association with the employee is the equivalent of a family relationship.”

Section 2 of the bill would amend Unemployment Insurance Code Section 3302 to include additional individuals for whom leave to care for can be provided. Those would include a “any other individual related by blood or whose association with the employee is the equivalent of a family relationship.”

In addition, it would expand the term “family member” to include “any other individual related by blood or whose association with the employee is the equivalent of a family relationship.”

  1. Oh look, it’s creepy Democrat Assemblywoman Buffy Wicks from the dystopian City of Oakland who supports infanticide. She’s now pushing a new bill to expand eligibility for paid family leave? This legislation can’t be intended for parents with kids because wicked Buffy Wicks wants all babies aborted so there are no kids.

  3. NO on AB 518! Geez, go do something useful Buffy Wicks! Good thing, though, that all we need to see these days is Buffy’s name and photo to grind out the auto-contacts to our state reps. What an embarrassment she is.
