Presidential
Democratic Primary
- Bernie Sanders (VT) 878,562 32.7% (Also won California, Colorado, Utah, Vermont)
- Elizabeth Warren (MA) 326,616 12.2%
- Michael Bloomberg (NY) 404,793 15.1% (Also won American Samoa)
- Pete Buttigieg (IN) 186,870 7%
- Amy Klobuchar (MN) 92,842 3.5%
- Tom Steyer (CA) 79,005 2.9%
- Joe Biden (DE) 638,987 23.8% (Also won Alabama, Arkansas, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia)
Bernie won the California battle, but Biden took the Super Tuesday war as he came out ahead in total delegates. Sanders remains hopeful going into next week while Warren and Bloomberg might face the music soon due to disappointing mostly 3rd and 4th place finishes on the night. In two weeks this will largely be a two-man race.
Republican Primary
- Donald Trump (NY) 1,379,488 92.7%
- Joe Walsh (IL) 37,970 2.5%
- Bill Weld (MA) 36,545 2.5%
Donald Trump wins big in California against no substantial Republican competition.
Congressional
- Doug LaMalfa (R) 91, 927 57.9%
- Audrey Denny (D) 57,398 36.2%
- Jared Huffman (D) 98,599 64.7%
- Dale K. Mensing (R) 34,858 22.9%
- Rachel Moniz (D). 10,137 6.7%
- John Garamendi (D) 65,025 56.5%
- Tamika Hamilton (R) 33,540 29.1%
- Sean Feucht (R) 16,549 14.4%
- Tom McClintock (R) 100,027 54.3%
- Brynne S. Kennedy (D) 67,123 36.5%
- Ami Bera (D) 40,614 45.3%
- Buzz Patterson (R) 33,964 37.9%
- Jon Ivy (R) 6,806 7.6%
This is a notable primary election result as Republicans have a shot in the November election as long as Republican turnout is as good or better.
- Jay Obernolte (R) 34,906 35.4%
- Tim Donnelly (R) 17,182 22.2%
- Chris Bubser (D) 27,020 27.1%
- Bob Conaway (D) 4,848 6.3%
- Josh Harder (D) 29,683 39.8%
- Ted Howze (R) 27,987 37.5%
Large animal veterinarian Ted Howze has a shot at regaining the 10th District for Republicans.
- TJ Cox (D) 15,484 36.1%
- David Valadao (R) 22,770 53.1%
- Ricardo De La Fuente (D) 3,492 8.1%
Valadao won the Primary as another possible blue wave buster. The over 50% was impressive, but incumbent TJ Cox is still within striking distance, and there’s an awful lot of time until November.
- Salud Carbajal (D) 76,467 52.2%
- Andy Caldwell (R) 64,661 44.1%
- Kenneth Young (NPP) 5,476 3.7%
With Carbajal and Caldwell so close, this is a race to watch in November.
- Christy Smith (D) 26,305 29.8%
- Mike Garcia (R) 22,542 25.5%
- Steve Knight (R) 17,776 21.1%
The empty congressional seat vacated by former Rep. Katie Hill had 13 challengers. Assemblywoman Christy Smith is currently leading, with the Republican vote split. Going in to November, expect to see a real fight by Republicans to reclaim this seat.
- Adam B. Schiff (D) 50,238 58.6%
- Eric Early (R) 11,826 13.8%
With seven challengers to incumbent Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff, Republican Eric Early came in second in this heavy Democrat district.
- Gil Cisneros (D) 39,270 42.6%
- Young Kim (R) 48,347 52.4%
Young and Cisneros are locked in for November, with Kim currently holding the cards to stop the blue wave in this suburban Orange County district.
- Harley Rouda (D) 56,943 43.7%
- Michelle Steel (R) 47,822 36.7%
- Brian Burley (R) 16,654 12.8%
Rouda came in first in the Primary, but with many lingering Republican votes that came in for other candidates, Steel may have enough to get elected in November.
- Ammar Campa-Najjar (D) 42,337 34.4%
- Darrell Issa (R) 30,603 24.9%
- Carl DeMaio (R) 25, 833 21%
- Brian W. Jones (R) 13,309 10.8%
This hard fought seat, vacated by former Rep. Duncan Hunter, split the Republican vote in the Primary. This looks be a win for Issa in November if the Republican voters show up again.
State Senate
- Monique Limon (D) 82,644 56.4%
- Gary Michaels (R) 55,813 38.1%
- Anastasia Stone (I) 8,063 5.5%
Assemblywoman Monique Limon (D-Santa Barbara) comes in strongly in the primary and is currently running ahead of the 2nd place finisher Gary Michaels.
- Melissa Melendez (R) 47,447 41.4%
- Joy Silver (D) 24,013 20.9%
- Elizabeth Romero (D) 23,936 20.9%
- John Schwab (R) 16,016 14%
- Ling Ling Chang (R) 60,531 49.6%
- Joseph Cho (D) 21,592 17.7%
- Josh Newman (D) 39,849 32.7%
Josh Newman rises from the political ashes as he is back as the Democratic nominee after he was recalled a few years back. Considering Chang’s total, it will be a tight race. That recall will be hanging over the Anaheim area for months as both candidates campaign.
- John Moorlach (R) 82,120 50%
- Dave Min (D) 41,921 25.5%
- Katrina Foley (D) 40,352 24.5%
Dave Min narowlly beats Costa Mesa Mayor Foley in a close race to face off against incumbent John Moorlach in November. The primary vote seems to give Moorlach the edge even with the Democratic votes being combined, but it still is a long way to November.
State Assembly
- Jordan Cunningham (R) 58,854 61.2%
- Dawn Addis (D) 37,341 38.8%
Incumbent John Cunningham wins big in the Primary and looks set to keep his seat in November over the first round vote against Dawn Addis.
- Tom Lackey (R) 20,554 59.8%
- Steve Fox (D) 5,281 15.4%
- Johnathon Ervin (D) 2,452 7.1%
Experience trumped party preference as Fox beat out Ervin to get the second spot here in November. Fox wants the seat back badly, but with Lackey getting a high primary total, Fox has his work cut out for him yet again.
- Phillip Chen (R) 38,158 59.1%
- Andrew Rodriguez (D) 26,430 40.9%
Chen takes a commanding lead from his Primary performance, solidifying his reelection favoritism in the 55th district in Orange County.
- Bill Brough (R) 16,109 17.9%
- Laurie Davies (R) 24,993 27.8%
- Ed Sachs (R) 12,798 14.3%
- Scott Rhinehart (D) 19,439 21.7%
- Chris Duncan (D) 16,398 18.3%
Republican Laguna Niguel Mayor Laurie Davies and party backed Democrat Scott Rhinehart came out ahead of the scandal embattered Assemblyman Bill Brough (R-Dana Point) in the 73rd, creating yet another opportunity for Republicans to hold back the blue wave, as well as an opportunity for Democrats to move in.
- Brian Maienschein (D) 48,105 54.9%
- June Yang Cutter (R) 39,569 45.1%
Cutter crept up all night, but Maienschein enters the general with a healthy, but still close, lead.
