Sonoma Public Health Officer Orders Masks, Vaccines, Claims ‘Risk of COVID’
Dr. Karen Smith can expand her order to other facilities on an as-needed basis

If you’re experiencing a deja vu of the Covid era, you are not alone. Last month we reported that Governor Gavin Newsom is still pushing the Covid vaccine. Even after Newsom’s three years of Covid lockdowns, mandatory masking, social distancing and mandatory Covid vaccines, Newsom, three Western States Governors, and the California Department of Public Health claim “Following Trump’s politicization of CDC, West Coast states issue unified vaccine recommendations — California breaks from future federal guidance with new law.”
So it’s not really about public health. It’s Trump Derangement Syndrome.
These Democrat tyrants have formed a weird alliance to push back against the very necessary reforms made by real doctors and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., to dismantle the Big Pharma control of the CDC, HHS and FDA.
Governor Newsom signed AB 144, an omnibus health trailer bill authorizing California to disregard the Center for Disease Control’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, and instead base future immunization guidance on “credible, independent medical organizations,” including but not limited to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), according to bill analysis.
And now, here come the mask orders, starting in deep blue wine country.

Wait! I thought Gov. Newsom already signed that bill banning law enforcement from wearing masks. Newsom signed Senate Bill 627, by Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco), which bans federal law enforcement officers from wearing masks while performing their jobs, disregarding security risks and officers’ own safety. Lawmakers even imposed criminal penalties for noncompliance as an added bonus, though it is unclear just how the California Legislature will impose fines on federal immigration officers.
Wiener refers to his bill as “landmark” legislation to ban “extreme masking” by local and federal law enforcement, justified by “rising fascism.”

Sonoma County Interim Health Officer Dr. Karen Smith issued an order today requiring health care personnel and others to wear masks inside patient care areas of specified health care facilities. The health order, designed to protect the most vulnerable populations, will take effect Nov. 1 and last through March 31, 2026.

“Dr. Smith also issued guidance today for the general public, strongly recommending that everyone 6 months of age and older get current COVID-19 and flu vaccines, and RSV vaccines if they are eligible. She also recommends that both vaccinated and unvaccinated people wear masks in public indoor settings when the COVID or influenza risk in Sonoma County is high.”
“In California, vaccines remain covered by insurance for residents of all ages — and they remain the best protection we have against respiratory virus infections,” she said.
“The mask mandate will run from Nov. 1 until March 31, 2026, and the order states that Smith can expand the type of facilities subject to it on an as-needed basis. [We’ve seen this game before in California.] Additionally, the requirement will be put in place annually unless otherwise rescinded.”

Dr. Smith was appointed in 2015 by Gov. Jerry Brown as the California State Public Health Officer and director of the California Department of Public Health, a position she held through July of 2019.
