California Republican Assemblyman Kevin Kiley Tuesday made it official: He’s running to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom as the Governor of California.
The Globe had a chance to speak with Kiley, who indicated recently he was seriously considering entering the recall election of Gov. Newsom. The Globe asked Kiley what made him decide to enter the recall election now.
“I want to see Gavin Newsom recalled,” Kiley said. “I’ve said all along that I am willing to play any roll I can.” Kiley said that he never imagined it would lead to him deciding to run for governor. But he heard from tens of thousands of Californians who told him he needed to run and replace Newsom for governor.
Kiley said “Over the next 70 days, I’ll fight in every way I can to get our movement across the finish line. We’re in it to win.”

Until recently, the election date was a moving target. By design.
As the Globe reported July 1st, Kiley (R-Granite Bay) condemned the dubious bill changing the date of the Recall Election against Gov. Gavin Newsom last week, when a Democrat colleague stood up and challenged Kiley’s critique of the governor.
As for the bill, Kiley said in a recent interview SB 152 may be the most corrupt bill he’s seen in his time in the Legislature. As Kiley explained, the Legislature itself violated international human rights standards by changing rules in the middle of an election.
Then, in the dead of night, Newsom signed SB 152, changing the timing and date of his own Recall in an attempt to suppress votes against him. “It’s possibly the most corrupt act in California history,” Kiley said.
“Every child knows the word for changing the rules in the middle of the game,” Kiley added. “It’s cheating. And every California voter should know: Gavin Newsom is cheating in the Recall, with this Legislature as his willing accomplice.”
Now that the date has been set, it’s going to get really interesting in California.

Recently Kiley exposed that in elaborate taxpayer-funded events, “Gov. Gavin Newsom played a game-show host with a ‘Big Spin’ lottery wheel, posed with minions and smurfs, rode a roller coaster, compared himself to Oprah for ‘giving away money,’ and juggled like an actual clown.”
Kiley referred to the Newsom events as “a stunning escalation in Newsom’s war on reality.”
But Kiley was critical of Newsom creating the diversion away from California’s reality: the homeless epidemic, and the trash, and decay endemic on the streets. “Newsom even went so far as to declare that his lockdowns somehow helped the economy,” Kiley said. “Fact checkers are roasting him for this insane claim.”
“If our next Governor has a mission statement, it should be Back to Basics: do the things government is supposed to do, do them well, and do nothing else,” Kiley said. “Because our current Governor is promising exactly the opposite.”
Kiley added, “A new anti-Recall ad ends with the six most ominous words I’ve ever heard: ‘Governor Newsom is just getting started.’”

Kiley’s promising six much more encouraging words as an alternative on September 15th: “People of California Reclaim Their Government.”
What we're seeing from Gavin Newsom is exactly what happens in sham democracies. Those in power use their power to make sure they don't lose their power. pic.twitter.com/P34Vj9q7Bi
