Arizona Democrat Yassamin Ansari is drawing comparisons from many commentators to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez after invoking two of the New York Democrat’s most controversial narratives, calling ICE detention facilities “concentration camps,” and using social media to question President Donald Trump’s cognitive fitness for office.

Ansari, who represents Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District, told KTAR News 92.3 that she has personally seen the conditions inside immigration detention facilities across Arizona and compared those facilities to concentration camps.

“These detention centers are like concentration camps. I think that they are disgusting,” Ansari said, according to KTAR. “People are facing psychological and physical torture.”

In a follow-up post to X, she wrote, “We need to abolish ICE and end for-profit detention centers once and for all.”

State Rep. John Gillette (R-LD30) responded to Ansari’s comments in a Tuesday post on X, accusing media outlets of applying different standards to claims made by Democrats and Republicans.

“If a Democrat says they saw, seen, did, called, or anything you report as truth. When a Republican, provides proof, photos, witness statements.. you go silent or say unconfirmed,” Gillette wrote. “MEDIA ACTIVISM IS PROPAGANDA. Democrats hate America.”

Ansari’s language closely tracks a national controversy sparked in 2019 by Ocasio-Cortez, who claimed during an Instagram Live appearance that the United States was “running concentration camps on our southern border,” according to The Hill. Ocasio-Cortez later defended the phrase, writing that “concentration camps are not the same as death camps” and defining them as “the mass detention of civilians without trial,” The Hill reported, despite detainees receiving legal due process under the Immigration and Naturalization Act.

Turning to the President’s fitness, Ansari also posted Tuesday on X that Trump is “visibly struggling” and claimed, “the signs of worsening cognitive decline are becoming harder and harder to ignore.”

“He’s also falling asleep regularly in meetings,” Ansari wrote, echoing an uncorroborated Democrat-driven media narrative. “Why is this not a national story every day?”

The post followed similar claims raised by other House Democrats. Earlier this month, Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) questioned Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing about videos in which Trump appeared to be asleep at meetings, according to CBS News.

Trump’s physician, Navy Capt. Sean Barbabella, said after a recent examination at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center that the president “remains in excellent health, demonstrating strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and overall physical function,” according to ABC News. ABC reported that Trump scored 30 out of 30 on a cognitive assessment.

Ansari was sworn into Congress in January 2025 and is the youngest woman in the 119th Congress and the first Iranian American Democrat, according to her official House biography. Before her election to Congress, she served as Phoenix vice mayor and was the youngest woman ever elected to the Phoenix City Council.

Ansari and Ocasio-Cortez are both members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, which lists Ansari as a member from Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District and Ocasio-Cortez as an executive board member at large from New York’s 14th Congressional District.

In July 2025, Ansari was named chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus’ Lowering Costs Task Force, according to a press release from her office. The caucus said the task forces were aimed at helping Democrats reclaim the House majority in 2026 with what it called “a sharp, populist, pro-working-class agenda.”

Ansari has made opposition to ICE and immigration detention a recurring issue since entering Congress. Her office announced in March that she held a “Know Your Rights” tele-town hall with ACLU Arizona and conducted her fifth oversight visit to an Arizona detention facility following the death of Emmanuel Damas, who had been held at the Central Arizona Correctional Center in Florence, according to a press release from Ansari’s office.

Her office said at the time that Ansari had also sent a letter demanding an investigation into Damas’ death and sought answers about a $313.4 million Department of Homeland Security contract awarded to GardaWorld to renovate a newly purchased immigration facility in Surprise, as previously reported by California Globe.

Ansari previously demanded answers from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons after a May 2025 oversight visit to the Eloy Detention Center, according to another release from her office. In the letter, Ansari alleged detainees reported being forced to march outside in Arizona heat, living without air conditioning in extremely high temperatures, and lacking access to counsel.

The rhetoric places Ansari in a familiar progressive lane, linking immigration enforcement, detention conditions, Trump-era policies, and social media-driven criticism of the president. Ocasio-Cortez helped define that lane during Trump’s first term. Ansari is now occupying it from Arizona.

  1. Arizona’s Democrat Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari was born in Seattle, Washington, to Iranian parents who fled Iran following the Islamic Revolution. Wonder why her parents had to flee and how much loot did they take with them?

Ansari grew up wealthy and privileged in Scottsdale, Arizona where her father had opened up his successful finance company. She attended Chaparral High School which is one of the top schools in the state where she organized with the Arizona Democratic Party in support of Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign and worked with her mother to tutor Somali refugees (maybe she opened a Somalian learing center?) Ansari attended Stanford University, and received a bachelor’s degree in international relations. During college, Ansari interned for Nancy Pelosi. It sounds like she was groomed to be a deep-state Democrat political hack?

After graduation, she worked in the office of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and spent a year working on the Paris Agreement which is a legally binding international treaty that laughably combats climate change by limiting global temperature rise. Thankfully President Trump initiated the U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Agreement for the second time on January 20, 2025.

Ansari completed master’s degree in international relations and politics from St. John’s College, Cambridge in 2016 and continued to be involved in promoting the globalist’s climate change scam by helping plan the Climate Action 2016 Summit, the Global Climate Action Summit, and the first U.N. Youth Climate Summit.

Despite no previous political experience, Ansari ran in the Phoenix City Council November 2020 election representing Phoenix’s 7th District. She came in second in the general election but she somehow won the runoff election (Democrat voter fraud?) and was installed into office in March 2021. While in office, she attended the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference with Phoenix mayor Kate Gallego, as well as the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference. How did this benefit her constituents in her Phoenix district?

Ansari resigned her City Council seat on March 28, 2024 to run for Arizona’s 3rd congressional district. Ansari raised almost $1.4 million for the campaign. Her campaign received its largest individual contributions from entities owned by her family along with support from various labor unions (including the Carpenters & Joiners Union and Teamsters), legal firms , and leftist political organizations like the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and EMILY’s List. Ansari was endorsed by the pro-Israel lobby group Democratic Majority for Israel (DMFI), and supported continued U.S. military aid to Israel “without additional conditions” along with the expansion of the Abraham Accords during her 2024 election campaign. Ansari won the primary by just 39 votes and somehow won the general election.

Ansari’s financial disclosures from October 2023 showed that she owns two properties in downtown Phoenix and made between $15,000 and $50,000 in 2023 by renting one. Ansari also estimated in the disclosure that her assets were worth between $2.5 million and $8.3 million.

How did Democrat Congresswoman Yassamin Ansari gain so much wealth in such a short amount of time while being a Democrat politician?

Open, naked, brazen corruption? Maybe she has ties to the cartels?
