Former VP Kamala Harris Consults With Hillary Clinton On Possible Governor Run In 2026

Harris is also consulting with Biden, Buttigieg

According to new reports from the Telegraph, former Vice President Kamala Harris is now consulting with former Senator and fellow Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton over a potential run for Governor of California.

While Harris has consulted on several other lawmakers and donors on whether she should run for Governor or not, including former President Joe Biden and former Transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg, Harris consulting with Clinton shows that she is getting serious for either a 2026 gubernatorial run or having another crack at the presidency in 2028. In both cases, there would be no sitting incumbent to worry about.

Since leaving the Vice Presidency in January, Harris’ next political run has loomed over both Sacramento and Washington. Aides and close friends have hinted at Harris running for both in the past several months, with Harris herself only saying that her decision on running for Governor would come by the end of the summer. However, in recent calls to supporters, that timeframe may be moved up by several months as the number of experienced candidates with electoral experience grows in the Golden State.

So far, the list of declared candidates includes former Congresswoman Katie Porter,  Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis, former California Attorney General and Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier BecerraState Superintendent Tony Thurmond, Senator Toni Atkins (D-San Diego), Former State Controller Betty Yee, former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, and Diamond Resorts founder Stephen Cloobeck. In addition, Republicans have a few major candidates in the race so far as well, including Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco.

Complicating matters are the wide array of speculative candidates still out there. Both Porter and Kounalakis have said that they would drop out of the race should Harris enter, while many Republicans, like Special Presidential Envoy and former Ambassador to Germany Ric Grenell, have said that they would enter the race should she run.

Harris-Clinton

Harris consulting with Clinton is also an indication that she still wants to stay relevant post-election, something Clinton dealt with post-2016 and ultimately kept her from running for office again. Last week, Harris said “I’m not going anywhere” and bashed President Donald Trump publicly for the first time after the 2024 election.

And relevancy is critical if Harris wishes to run next year. Early polls showed that Harris was the strong favorite among potential and declared candidates, with a November 2024 poll and a February 2025 poll showing her with 72% and 57% support amongst Democrats, and the November poll showing 46% support across all political leanings. However, thanks in part to Porter entering the race, Harris slipped to second in polling. According to a March 2025 poll, Harris was now down by five points to Porter.

While Clinton could help solidify some scattered Democrats in California for Harris and could help prepare her against GOP candidates who are Trump supporters including Bianco and Grenell, she wouldn’t help where Harris is weakest. That includes the male vote (41% voted for Clinton in 2016, 44% for Harris in 2024), the all-too-important-to-California Latino vote (where the GOP saw a 14 point jump in support from 2016 to 2024), and the centrist/moderate Democrat vote, who have have been hard to convince of Democratic candidates in the past decade.

According to the telegraph, Harris is currently looking into Trump’s media blitz and appearance on several podcasts in the 2024 election, seeing that model as helping modernize the party and run a more modern campaign. This could possibly include an appearance on current Governor Gavin Newsom’s “This is Gavin Newsom” podcast, something which has gained national attention in the past month. Tellingly, Harris is currently watching Minnesota Governor and 2024 Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Tim Walz’s current media tour for how she may conduct her own in the future, with one of Walz’s stops being an appearance on Newsom’s podcast.

In any case, the inclusion of Clinton as a consultant is polarizing. While many Democrats are happy to see different members of the party formerly at odds with each other now supporting one another, others are now turned away from possibly supporting Harris because of the baggage Clinton brings.

  1. Good God! Harris advanced in politics for well known reasons that have nothing to do with intelligence or standing on her feet for that matter, She became the vice presidential candidate solely because she checked a number of DEI boxes. Biden flat out said that was his plan. She has accomplished nothing in her political career. She is a dim-wit and a constant embarrassment. I guess she’s perfect for California.

    1. FED up ! Californians don’t want her either. We are starting to turn our state back to RED! Finally some common sense is coming back.

    2. You may not agree with her politics, but she garnered way more votes than you ever would. The things people say about accomplished women are comical. Your jealousy is shining.

  2. I’m not stooping down to lowlife MAGA idiots by saying the 2024 election was stolen but let’s get one thing straight, Kamala Harris most likely performed much better in the presidential election because the data shows SOMEONE manipulated the presidential race in battleground states. Basically the machines in battleground states were rigged to change votes from Harris to Trump once she got too close to Trump. The data shows that whenever she got neck and neck with Trump he would skyrocket ahead of her and this pattern continued until voting stopped and he won every single battleground state by just enough votes to not trigger a hand recount in every state. A hand recount would prove that there was voting manipulation so he had to meet a certain threshold in order to avoid a hand recount. Mainstream Media and even Democrat politicians won’t talk about this because they don’t want to look like MAGA babies but the data and math don’t lie and the battleground state voting pattern mimicks the same exact pattern found in Russian elections which are rigged to the fullest extent in favor of Putin every time.

    1. I definitely agree that something was not right in the 2024 Election.. Harris performed quite well. Something underhanded happened. Trump had so many felons, etc. How is it that once he was elected they all went away,

    1. Get compromised electronic voting systems out of the way, and I’ll bet California turns at least PURPLE…

And – what a CLOWN-SHOW of complete NINCOMPOOPs the Democrats have cobbled together for Governor… FAILURE after FAILURE after FAILURE…. (so when’s Lara gonna throw HIS hat in the ring???)

C’mon Republicans… you’ve GOT to have someone with the experience, and gravitas of a John Moorlach or Rick Caruso to go full-DOGE on California and all of the malfeasance that has characterized this state for at least 25 if not 50 years….

      1. Hoping Caruso runs for for governor! We need someone with business experience to dig us out of the demwit mess.

        1. Caruso is a Democrat. I would never trust a Democrat to run this state. We need a Real Trump like Republican with guts.

It’s clear that the people of this state and this nation do not want any more career politicians in government. We want people who truly know this state and have experience in what makes our state the world’s fifth largest economy. Having been born and raised in Los Angeles and spending much of my personal and professional life in the Central Valley I embody just that. Being Vice President of Zacky Farms, I understand the diverse needs of California, its businesses, and its short comings. I know what it takes and how to give California what it needs to flourish. Having been a board member of the California Poultry Federation I have experienced firsthand how incompetent self-serving and corrupt the vast majority of those currently in power truly are, as we are all witness to their failure. It is up to all of us to take a stand and make the change we want to see in California. I seek office not for fame or fortune, or special privileges, but because I know no one else is more capable, incorruptible, and committed to fixing California. I have solutions to drought, homelessness, wildfires, and cost of living. I will bring left and right together to tackle our challenges and set us up to be prepared for the future. This is not about democrats or republicans; this is about California. We’re all in this together. We’re all on the same team, Team California! We must work together to accomplish this goal.

  4. Irony – the Google was just serving a Becerra for Governor ad on this site… {barf}
    I told them I wasn’t interested….

  5. Hillary: “You need to work on being more condescending.”
Kamala: “But I don’t like when my wine glasses get all foggy and stuff.”

    1. 🤣
      Perfect
Just 2 losers planning their undoing over a $2,500 dollar chardonnay while their creepy husbands ogle a starlet.

  6. Cackling Kamala and Tampon Tim need to run in the next presidential election and push the woke trans agenda harder next time.

  7. Just a hunch, but California isn’t going to settle for liberal retreads as governor candidates. California needs a smart candidate who can read spreadsheets and has common sense. None of the Dem candidates presented thus far have these qualities.
