Hollywood Elites Decry French ‘Fascism’ While France Suffers Immigration Chaos
The French aren’t stupid – they see the same patterns Americans rejected

Leave it to the caviar crowd in Hollywood to lecture the French about democracy while their own endless parade of celebrity endorsements, virtue-signaling Oscars speeches, and billionaire-funded propaganda failed spectacularly to stop Donald Trump from a landslide victory with the American electorate. Now, with France’s National Rally (RN) breathing down the neck of the Macron-wing elite ahead of future elections, Hollywood’s finest are exporting the same tired script: scream “fascism,” sign a petition, and hope the plebs fall in line.
The latest spectacle unfolded on the eve of the famous Cannes film festival. Mark Ruffalo, Javier Bardem, Yorgos Lanthimos, Ken Loach, and a gaggle of other international glitterati piled onto an open letter launched by 600 French film professionals. The target of their ire was French billionaire Vincent Bolloré and his media empire, which includes pay-TV giant Canal+, the news channel CNews, and a planned acquisition of cinema chain UGC. Bolloré has been giving airtime to ideas the left doesn’t like. The petition hysterically warns of a “far-right grip” on French cinema and a “fascist takeover of the collective imagination.” Canal+ CEO Maxime Saada fired back that he won’t work with people calling him a “crypto-fascist.”
This is peak Hollywood hubris. These same actors couldn’t convince their own countrymen to reject “threats to democracy” back home, yet they think their accents and red-carpet clout will sway French voters. Fortunately, France isn’t California. The French aren’t buying the script because the plot—uncontrolled immigration, skyrocketing crime, and cultural erosion—is playing out in their streets, not on a soundstage.
France’s populist surge isn’t some Bolloré-manufactured fever dream. It’s a direct response to decades of open borders and elite denial. In the 2024 European Parliament elections, RN topped the polls with around 31-33% of the vote. In the subsequent snap legislative elections, RN captured 33.2% in the first round before tactical voting by the left and center capped its seats at 142 in the National Assembly. The party remains the largest opposition force, with Marine Le Pen or protégé Jordan Bardella polling strongly for 2027.
Public opinion polls consistently rank unbridled immigration as a top concern—38% overall, but a staggering 76% among RN voters. Issues like integration failures, Islamist radicalism, urban riots, and terror attacks have mainstreamed what the left dismisses as “far-right” talking points. Net legal immigration hovers far above the RN’s proposed 10,000-per-year cap, fueling debates over housing, welfare strain, and national identity. Even mainstream parties have lurched right on the issue, passing restrictive laws that pilfer RN proposals.
Vincent Bolloré’s CNews, the so-called “French Fox News”, dares platform voices like Éric Zemmour on crime, immigration, and Islam’s compatibility with French laïcité. For this sin, the channel has been fined repeatedly by France’s media regulator Arcom for Zemmour’s comments on migrant minors, plus later hits for “bias,” climate skepticism, and “lack of pluralism.” Critics howl about “hate speech” while ignoring that CNews simply reflects what millions of French viewers actually worry about. Bolloré denies any ideological crusade; he’s a businessman pushing “French soft power.” But to the left, any conservative counter-narrative is “reactionary” and must be crushed.
Hollywood’s meddling is especially rich given its domestic track record. Celebrity PACs, star-studded Harris rallies, and nonstop Trump-bashing in 2024 couldn’t move the needle. Now they’re trying the same “fascism” hysterics abroad, blacklisting filmmakers who won’t toe the line and pressuring Canal+ over a business deal. It’s not about democracy—it’s about narrative monopoly. When legacy media and state broadcasters leaned left for decades, that was “pluralism.” When Bolloré buys assets and lets the silent majority speak, now all of a sudden it’s an existential threat.
The French aren’t stupid. They see the same patterns Americans rejected: open borders, elite insulation from consequences, and cultural self-loathing dressed up as virtue. Populism rises when governments ignore reality. CNews isn’t “radicalizing” anyone. It’s reporting what the establishment media buried. Hollywood’s latest petition is just another desperate bid to keep the thumb on the scale.
Sorry, Ruffalo and Bardem. The French people get to decide their future, not your petition, not your Cannes photo-ops, and certainly not your imported American script of manufactured outrage. The Overton window is shifting right because voters demanded it. Cry “fascism” all you want. France is waking up.
It would be really interesting to run a scientifically valid, biological and psychological analysis to understand why the “creative class” is so hell-bent on liberal/progressive thought and action…
My amateur hypothesis is that they are foundationally insecure people, who crave attention and acceptance from society, mixed in with an unhealthy dose of narcissism that causes them to act out in ways to drive attention to themselves.
Sorta like California Governor Gavin Newsom…
Don’t forget that most of Hollywood belong to a demonic deep state cult. They sold their souls for fame and wealth. They perform satanic blood rituals and consume adrenochrome. If they get out of line and refuse to follow the script, they’re either eliminated or replaced with clones.
